As the EGOT winner celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary (yes, you read that right - 12 whole years!), he couldn't help but gush about their enduring love story. Speaking at the Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC) Gala, Legend revealed the secret to their rock-solid relationship: growing up together and navigating life's ups and downs as a team.
"I think being parents forces you to grow up," the All of Me hitmaker explained to People. "It changes your priorities, but also, [for] all the joy we've experienced together, we've also had tragedy together and challenges together."
Translation: being a parent is what really brought them closer together! And who can blame them? Raising four adorable kids - Luna Simone, Miles Theodore, Esti Maxine, and Wren Alexander (plus two fur babies and a bearded dragon!) must have been quite the adventure!
But things didn't always go smoothly. In 2020, Chrissy Teigen tragically suffered a life-threatening partial placental abruption at just 20 weeks into her pregnancy. The couple's baby son, Jack, sadly passed away.
However, as they shared in their heartfelt renewal of vows ceremony at the stunning Villa Pizzo in Lake Como, Italy (where Stevie Wonder even provided musical entertainment!), Legend and Teigen are a force to be reckoned with. They've been through it all - joy, heartbreak, and everything in between - and have come out stronger on the other side.
As Chrissy once confessed, her 20-year-old self first laid eyes on Legend back in 2006 during a music video shoot. "We spent the entire day together," she recalled on The Wendy Williams Show. "Me in my underwear, him in a full suit... and we didn't ever say goodbye that night!"
Fast forward to 2023, and Legend paid tribute to his beloved wife, saying: "I'm so honored to know we created something that has meant so much to so many people" - referring to their iconic love song All of Me.
"I wrote this song to express how I felt to the woman I love as we were about to commit to a lifetime together," Legend confessed on Spotify. "But often the best songs are able to express something in a way that is both personal and universal."
And what's more personal than falling deeply in love with someone after just 12 hours of spending time together? As Teigen cheekily revealed, she was smitten from day one: "We didn't ever say goodbye that night!"
