The seeds of doubt were sown when Rogan shared a viral video sent to him by stand-up comedian Brian Simpson. The footage, narrated by a passionate bread advocate named Dennis Echelbarger, exposed the dark underbelly of America's bread industry.

According to Echelbarger, American bread is not just made from wheat - it's been stripped of its natural nutrients and enriched with chemicals that many people can't even metabolize. This has led to a host of unwanted side effects, including fatigue, anxiety, hyperactivity, and inflammation. And if that wasn't enough, some of these additives are downright toxic.

"It's not so much the gluten as what we've done to the grain," Echelbarger explained, his voice laced with disgust. "About 200 years ago, we started stripping the bran and germ or the fiber in nutrients to make flour shelf-stable, also nutritionally dead." He went on to reveal that American bread manufacturers have used a range of questionable substances to keep their products fresh and appealing.

These include folic acid, which many people can't process; chlorine gas, used to bleach white bread; potassium bromate, a carcinogen banned in several countries; and glyphosate, the same chemical found in Roundup weed killer. "This isn't bread," Echelbarger declared. "It's a toxic cocktail designed to keep you coming back for more."

Rogan was so moved by the video that he called it "mandatory viewing" for everyone. He shared his own experience of cutting out processed bread from his diet, saying it made a significant difference in how he felt.

As news of Rogan's expose spread, Americans who had lived abroad and enjoyed high-quality bread began to share their own stories online.
