Taylor Swift's Ex-Boyfriend Joe Jonas Dishes on Their Toxic Breakup 17 Years Later
In a shocking turn of events, Taylor Swift's ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas has finally broken his silence about their tumultuous breakup 17 years ago. The 36-year-old musician, who is now married to Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner (a close friend of T-Swift), made rare comments about the pop sensation in a recent interview with Esquire alongside his bandmates Kevin and Nick Jonas.
The news comes after Taylor aired out her grievances over their split on Ellen DeGeneres' show back in 2008, where she famously said she wouldn't "remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 27 seconds when I was 18." Ouch!
When asked about Taylor's latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, Joe surprisingly showed some admiration for the singer's work. "I've heard some of it," he said nonchalantly. But that's not all - Joe was also asked about his dating life after his divorce from Sophie was finalized just over a year ago. "Five shows in a row doesn't make it easy to meet someone for coffee," he quipped, trying to downplay his lack of love life. However, when pressed further, he revealed that he's been using social media to connect with potential partners - yep, you guessed it: Instagram and TikTok!
And if you thought Joe was done being cryptic about Taylor, think again! Back in April, he left a mysterious response to lyrics from her song Mr. Perfectly Fine on his TikTok account. A fan commented quoting the 2021 Taylor lyrics, "So dignified in his well-pressed suit." Joe simply replied with a deadpan, "Thanks for noticing." Uh-huh, sure Joe!
But what really caught our attention was that Joe's friend Andrew Santino spilled some tea on the proposal of Taylor's current beau, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. On an episode of Pardon My Take podcast, Andrew revealed that Travis had been planning his engagement to T-Swift for months! "We had golf together in like April or May," he shared, "and yeah, he said he was doing it. But he didn't say when."
It turns out that Travis carefully orchestrated the proposal, reserving the day of Taylor's guest appearance on his New Heights podcast as the perfect moment to pop the question! As a team descended on his home garden to stage the setting, Taylor remained blissfully unaware of what was to come.
Meanwhile, Joe's marriage to Sophie seems strong despite their divorce drama. When asked about meeting new people, he cheekily mentioned that Instagram and TikTok are "apps" - ahem, we think you mean they're great places to meet someone, Joe!
