Jennifer Aniston Reveals Why 'Hot' Wasn't Enough for SNL
JENNIFER ANISTON OPENS UP ABOUT HER PAST FEARS AND FERTILITY STRUGGLES
In a candid conversation on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast, Jennifer Aniston shared her thoughts on joining Saturday Night Live in the 1990s and her long-awaited journey to motherhood.
The 56-year-old actress revealed that she was hesitant to join the male-dominated cast of SNL at the time, citing concerns about the treatment of women on the show. However, it was the opportunity to play Rachel Green in Friends that ultimately changed her mind.
"I don't know why I had this self-righteous attitude," Aniston confessed. "I was like, 'I don't know if women are treated the way they should be treated on this show.' It's a very male-dominated [show], and I would love to be here if it was in the Gilda Radner day."
In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2021, Aniston shared her initial reaction to joining SNL. "I was so young and dumb and I went into Lorne's office and I was like, 'I hear women are not respected on this show.' I don't remember exactly what I said next, but it was something like, 'I would prefer if it were like the days of Gilda Radner and Jane Curtin.'"
Despite her initial hesitation, Aniston has since hosted SNL multiple times and expressed her love for the show.
The actress also spoke about her 20-year battle to start a family, revealing that she underwent numerous rounds of unsuccessful IVF treatments. When asked if she considered adoption, Aniston was adamant: "I want my own DNA in a little person. That's the only way, selfish or not, whatever that is, I've wanted it."
Co-host Monica Padman asked Aniston if she had found peace after her fertility struggles, and the actress replied: "It's so peaceful... But I will say there's a point where it's like out of my control. There's literally nothing I can do about it."
Aniston acknowledged that she has been in relationships with men who could have potentially fathered children, but admitted that the thought often passed quickly. "It [having kids] just wasn't in the plan, whatever the plan was," she said.
The actress also addressed the false narrative that she chose not to have children because of her workaholic lifestyle. In an interview with Harper's Bazaar UK, Aniston stated: "They didn't know my story, or what I'd been going through over the past 20 years to try to pursue a family... That's not anybody's business."
It seems that Jennifer Aniston has finally found peace and closure after her long journey to motherhood. As she said, "The ship has sailed," but she has zero regrets about her choices.
In other news, it's been reported that Jennifer Aniston will be reuniting with her former Friends co-star Matthew Perry for a new project. Sources close to the actress have confirmed that the two are set to star in a new comedy series, with production expected to begin later this year.
As fans eagerly await more updates on Aniston's personal and professional life, one thing is certain: she's still going strong at 56!
