Ironheart: Critics Slam Disney+ Series, But Fans Aren't Bowed!
DISNEY+ BLOCKBUSTER BOMBS: IRONHEART SHATTERS CRITICISM, BUT FANS CAN'T GET ENOUGH
The highly-anticipated Disney+ series Ironheart has finally dropped on the streaming platform, and it's been making waves in the entertainment industry - but not all of them are good. While some critics have ripped apart the sci-fi epic, fans are singing its praises online.
Costing a reported $150 million to develop, Ironheart is based on the Marvel Comics character Riri Williams, played by Dominique Thorne. The series follows her return to Chicago as she joins forces with mysterious criminal Parker Robbins (Anthony Ramos) and works towards building impressive iron suits. But does it live up to expectations?
On Rotten Tomatoes, the six-part series has a respectable 74% score, but some critics are not impressed. One viewer on X (formerly known as Twitter), @HopeSloop, wrote: "#Ironheart is really fun at times, but feels like it's desperately in need of a soul. The magic vs machine theme is conceptually intriguing, but it feels like it's lacking here." They also confessed to feeling "ambivalent" about the series, saying they didn't love anything but didn't hate any part either.
The Hollywood Handle was even harsher, stating: "#Ironheart has some fun moments, but it's never interesting enough nor does it manage to stick the landing. Bland characters and a super uninteresting plot that doesn't know where it wants to go - a disappointment overall."
Mark Cassidy, who claimed to have seen all six episodes of Ironheart, was equally scathing: "I've seen all six episodes, and it's not good. It becomes obvious very quickly why Marvel decided to dump this on D+ 3 eps at a time. Can't fault the cast, but none of them are given much to work with." Ouch.
But don't just take their word for it! The Guardian gave Ironheart an average rating of three out of five stars and praised Thorne's performance as "stunningly charismatic," saying it was "slightly tiresome" at times. But hey, who doesn't love a good underdog story?
Despite the mixed reviews from critics, some fans are absolutely loving the series. One fan on X wrote: "Ironheart is really good so far if you haven't watched it yet please do." Another gushed: "I wish #Ironheart was 9 episodes, I need more than 6!!!"
Even The Guardian's reviewer seemed to have a soft spot for Ironheart, saying it was "a show that will undoubtedly grow on you" and praising its "interesting" take on the superhero genre.
So what do we make of all this? Is Ironheart a hidden gem waiting to be discovered, or is it just another Disney+ disappointment? One thing's for sure - fans are hooked. As one enthusiastic viewer put it: "Whoever is hating on iron heart is missing out on some good s**t rn!! #Ironheart."
