Irish Band Pulled Off Stage at UK Festival for Pro-Palestine Chant

Irish folk band The Mary Wallopers were pulled off stage at a UK festival after starting a pro-Palestine chant

IRISH FOLK BAND SINGLED OUT FOR SUPPORTING PALESTINE, CUT OFF STAGE AT UK FESTIVAL

In a shocking display of censorship, Irish folk music band The Mary Wallopers were abruptly pulled off stage at Victorious Festival in Portsmouth on Friday after launching into a pro-Palestine chant. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and left fans and fellow musicians alike fuming.

The band, known for their energetic performances and passionate social justice advocacy, were mid-set when they unfurled a Palestinian flag and began chanting "Free Palestine!" The crowd was initially enthusiastic, with many joining in on the chant. However, the mood quickly turned ugly as festival organizers cut off the band's microphones and ushered them off stage.

But here's the kicker: according to sources close to the festival, it wasn't the pro-Palestine chant that triggered the abrupt end to The Mary Wallopers' set. Rather, it was a supposed "discriminatory" context surrounding the chant that allegedly prompted the move. Festival organizers claimed they had spoken to the band beforehand about their policy on flags of any kind – yet somehow this didn't prevent them from displaying the Palestinian flag.

Fans were predictably furious, with one social media user blasting the festival for its cowardly decision: "They pulled the plug on The Mary Wallopers because they had a Palestine flag on stage. Organisers are serious cowards."

Northern Irish rap trio Kneecap, known for their own advocacy of Palestinian rights, came to The Mary Wallopers' defense with a scathing statement: "Speak up against genocide in England and you're treated like a criminal. Up the Mary Wallopers. Free Palestine!"

This isn't the first time The Mary Wallopers have faced backlash for their pro-Palestine views. As regular readers of thescholarlynote.com may recall, the band was a headliner at last November's "Gig for Gaza" aid concert – a event that raised vital funds for Palestinian relief efforts.

But what really raises eyebrows is the fact that Northern Irish rapper Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, one half of Kneecap, has himself been facing terrorism charges after allegedly displaying a Hezbollah flag at a London gig last year. Despite this, he's still free to perform and advocate for Palestinian rights – raising questions about who's really being censored here.

Meanwhile, fans are demanding answers from Victorious Festival organizers over their handling of the situation. As one fan pointed out: "This is exactly what you get when you try to silence a voice that speaks truth to power."

In related news, police have launched an investigation into comments made by punk band Bob Vylan during their Glastonbury set in June – with Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy condemning the "threatening" remarks as "deeply offensive". The BBC has also come under fire for its handling of the situation, with a government spokesperson calling for an urgent explanation from Director General Tim Davie.

In short: it seems that anyone who dares to speak out against genocide – or advocate for Palestinian rights – is fair game for censorship and intimidation. But one thing's for sure: The Mary Wallopers won't be silenced anytime soon.

UPDATE: Hampshire Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident, while Victorious Festival organizers have released a statement attempting to clarify their position on the matter. Stay tuned for further updates as this story continues to unfold!
