Inside Teddi Mellencamp's Brave Hospital Updates Amid Cancer Battle
Teddi Mellencamp's Cancer Battle: A Glimpse into Her Latest Immunotherapy Treatment and a Peek at Her Love Life
Reality TV star Teddi Mellencamp, 44, daughter of legendary singer John Mellencamp, is once again taking to Instagram to share an intimate look into her ongoing battle with stage 4 cancer. The Bravo-lebrity has been documenting every step of her treatment and recovery on social media, giving fans a glimpse into the highs and lows of her journey.
On August 28th, Teddi shared a photo of herself sitting in a hospital chair with an IV in her arm, captioning it "Immunotherapy Day." This latest round of treatment has been particularly grueling for the star, who has previously confessed to experiencing severe anxiety due to immunotherapy. In fact, just last month, she reached out to her 1.2 million Instagram followers for advice on how to manage her anxiety.
"Hey guys, I need your help," Teddi wrote on August 14th. "I've been experiencing severe anxiety on random days for no apparent reason...like today, I was able to walk, did the podcast, and now I'm just sitting here full of anxiety. What are things that you guys have done to help make you feel better?"
The RHOBH guest star has been open about her struggles with immunotherapy, which has left her feeling worse than before she started treatment. In July, she revealed on an episode of her podcast Two Ts In A Pod that her current immunotherapy treatments were making her sicker.
"Essentially, what we figured out with me was, yes, I started out feeling great, and I could do all the pods and I could do all these things, and I could go to all my daughter's horse shows and I could stay at my house by myself, and I felt really strong," Teddi said on her podcast. "And what's happening with me is the longer that I'm on immunotherapy, the sicker it's making me."
The star revealed that she had been consulting with her doctors on how to proceed, and they decided to temporarily halt the immunotherapy treatments because they were "wracking her body incredibly hard." Teddi declared, "We're going to take a little break on the immunotherapy to get my body back feeling stronger."
But just when it seemed like Teddi was getting some relief, her doctor discovered yet another abnormal spot - this time on her abdomen - during a routine skin check. The spot was promptly removed and sent for testing, with the results revealing more bad news: another possible case of melanoma.
Teddi's cancer journey began as a battle with melanoma, which has left her with over 17 scars from surgeries to remove tumors from her back. This year alone, she has undergone emergency brain surgery and radiation after doctors found multiple brain and lung tumors.
Despite the challenges she faces, Teddi remains focused on her family - estranged husband Edwin Arroyave and their three children, Slate (12), Cruz (11), and Dove (5). The couple's marriage reportedly crumbled due to Teddi's rumored months-long affair with her horse trainer Simon Schröeder while his wife Karli Postel was pregnant with their second child.
"Karli found text messages on Simon's phone that exposed the affair," a source spilled. "When she confronted them about it, they confessed."
The drama between Teddi and Edwin didn't end there, as they paused their divorce proceedings last year due to her ailing health. However, sources claim the couple continues to live together in their $6.5 million Encino home.
But what's new is that Teddi has been actively dating men via the Hinge app, despite her busy schedule and complicated love life. "I've never talked about it at all, just because of the kids," she revealed on The Jamie Kern Lima Show earlier this month. "And I've never wanted anybody to have a guarantee whether it happened or didn't happen, but what I can say is, did I do things that hurt other people? Yes."
Teddi continued, "To this day, does it still hurt my heart and I wonder if that's why it got cancer? Yes, like it was my payback...nothing goes without payment."
