Inside Property Brothers' Bittersweet Summer: Family, Castles, and a TV Network in Turmoil

Property Brothers Drew and Jonathan Scott have given fans a glimpse into their bittersweet personal summer amid the ongoing turmoil at HGTV

Scotts' Summer of Love and Heartbreak: Property Brothers' Family Vacation Amid HGTV Chaos

In a bittersweet twist, the Scott twins, Drew and Jonathan, have revealed their heartwarming family vacation amidst the turmoil at HGTV. The duo's summer escapade took them to Scotland, where their 91-year-old father, Jim, was born, and it's a journey they'll cherish forever.

The Property Brothers' decision to take their dad back to his hometown was not just a sentimental gesture; it was also an opportunity for the entire family to reconnect with their roots. Drew shared with People that they took their own kids, Parker and Piper, along on this adventure, making it a true family affair. However, it's unclear if Jonathan's fiancée, Zooey Deschanel, brought her kids, Elsie and Charlie, into the mix.

The duo recently shared that during the show's hiatus they took their 91-year-old father, Jim, to Scotland - where he was born

The group spent quality time together in Scotland, visiting Jim's hometown and reuniting with his relatives. "We took our dad back to his hometown, and then we stayed in a castle, and then we went to Munich and Italy and Zurich," Drew gushed to People. "So it was fun to travel and get the kids used at a young age to traveling abroad."

The vacation also had an added layer of significance as they got their father back into contact with his loved ones from years ago. "Our dad's 91, so if we go, it's nice to take him too, because he can go back and see his brother and family," Drew explained. "So, we did a big family reunion there. We had 60 people together and it was a lot of fun."

However, the brothers' euphoria was short-lived as they returned to reality. Sources close to HGTV revealed that the network is undergoing a major shakeup, with several shows getting the ax, including "Bargain Block," "Married to Real Estate," and "Izzy Does It." The Scholary Note reports that insiders claim more changes are on the horizon.

Their summer plans came during a rocky time at HGTV as the channel pulled multiple shows without warning and delayed others

The Scott twins' flagship show, "Celebrity IOU," is one of the few programs that has managed to stay on schedule, premiering on July 9 with guest star Rachel Brosnahan. But what about their new show, "Chasing the West"? Initially set to debut on July 20, it was pushed back to July 30 amid the network's turmoil.

The latest twist? The second season of "Don't Hate Your House With the Property Brothers" has been delayed, with a revised press release stating that it will premiere later this year. No specific date has been announced yet.

So what exactly is going on behind the scenes at HGTV? According to sources, the network is bleeding revenue and desperately needs a bloodbath to turn things around. "We had to stop the bleeding," said a senior source. "We were hemorrhaging money. So in order to stop the bleeding, we had to have a calculated cut to make things make sense financially."

Jonathan shared with People that their new show, "Chasing the West," is a labor of love for them. The eight-episode first season will see the Property Brothers help families leave the city behind and acclimate to country life in stunning natural settings.

As fans of the Scott twins are aware, they grew up on a 160-acre ranch at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, Canada. "It was sort of bittersweet because we could share what we loved about growing up on a ranch with all these families," Jonathan said. "On the flip side, I miss it. It was so fun to be in the mountains."

Drew echoed his brother's sentiments: "It was like a blast from the past for us. It was nostalgic. We were riding horses every other day, and I haven't ridden in years, so I was sore." Despite the bittersweet nature of their nostalgia, it's clear that the Scott twins are committed to bringing this show to life.

As the dust settles on HGTV's latest shakeup, fans can only speculate about what the future holds for the Property Brothers. One thing is certain: with or without the network's backing, Drew and Jonathan will continue to share their passion for home renovation, family, and adventure with the world.
