House of the Dragon Star Slaps Co-Star Hard: 'I Felt Awful'!
SCANDALOUS SLAP! Olivia Cooke Reveals She Smacked Co-Star So Hard, It Made Him Cry
Get ready for a tale of drama, lust, and behind-the-scenes shenanigans as we dive into the world of Olivia Cooke's latest projects. The talented actress, 31, has been making waves in the industry with her roles in Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon and her upcoming drama series, The Girlfriend.
In a shocking admission, Cooke revealed that she got a bit too carried away during a scene with her co-star Tom Glynn-Carney, 30. The two were filming a tense moment where Alicent Hightower (Cooke) slaps King Aegon Targaryen (Glynn-Carney), and things took an unexpected turn.
"I walloped him!" Cooke exclaimed to thescholarlynote.com. "I don't know my own strength! It was a slap that resonated across the land! It made him cry! I mean, that was the reaction we were going for on camera, but I felt awful afterwards."
It turns out that Glynn-Carney had actually encouraged Cooke to give it her all and "slap him for real," so they consulted with the stunt coordinator and got permission to go full throttle. The result? A slap so strong, it left both actors stunned.
Cooke confessed that she's always felt a mix of emotions after performing intense stunts, saying, "It was hideous... I've always felt sick and wanted to cry after doing any stunt work like that." Talk about drama!
But the real tea is brewing around Cooke's latest project, The Girlfriend. In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, she dished out all the juicy details about her experience filming the series.
"It was a gargantuan job," Cooke admitted of landing the role in 2020. "My phone was plugged in by the wall, and I just ended up crouching in the corner of my apartment... as all my agents were on the phone, being like, 'Your life's about to change, baby!'"
However, what really caught our attention was Cooke's admission about filming multiple sex scenes with her co-star Laurie Davidson, 33. To get comfortable with each other, the two actors bonded over a rather unexpected activity – karaoke!
"I was like, 'I know what will break the ice. Celine Dion, All Coming Back To Me Now,'" Cooke revealed. "And we sang it together for seven whole minutes, looking into each other's eyes the whole time." Talk about an intimate moment!
But how did they navigate the more...ahem...sensitive scenes? According to Cooke, they had the help of intimacy coordinators, saying, "It's amazing to me that people had to just fudge their way through those scenes before those people existed."
Cooke emphasized the importance of having professionals on set to ensure comfort and respect for all involved. This is especially crucial for young actors who might not have the language or confidence to speak up about their boundaries.
As for her co-star, Robin Wright, 59, Cooke had nothing but praise for her performance as Davidson's mother in The Girlfriend. Wright not only stars in the series but also directed it – a feat that impressed Cooke greatly.
"'Her job was so hard,' I'd see her finish a really dramatic scene, weeping... then dash off to check the monitor and rush to the editing suite to see what else was needed," Cooke shared.
Wright's dedication to her craft is inspiring, especially considering she had to break into an all-male-dominated industry. As Cooke put it, "For a lot of actresses of her generation, the only way into the industry was by starting out in front of the camera. Getting behind the lens to direct was almost unheard of, it was such a male enterprise."
The Girlfriend debuts on Prime Video this Wednesday, September 10, and we can't wait to dive into the drama-filled world created by Cooke and her castmates.
