Hollywood Calls for Probe: Colbert's Show Cancelled Amid Political Controversies

The powerful Writers Guild of America has called on New York Attorney General Letitia James to launch a sweeping investigation into Paramount Global following the abrupt cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

EXCLUSIVE: The Cancellation of Stephen Colbert's The Late Show: A Scandalous Tale of Political Bribery and Corporate Capitulation!

In a shocking turn of events, Paramount Global has abruptly cancelled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, leaving fans reeling and critics crying foul! But why? Was it the show's declining ratings, or was something more sinister at play?

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) is calling for an investigation into whether the cancellation was a result of Colbert's scathing criticism of Paramount's controversial settlement with Donald Trump. Yes, you read that right – the same Trump who's been accused of corruption and has a history of bullying the media!

In a fiery joint statement from the the East and West Coast arms of the Writers Guild, the union suggests the scrapping of the show may amount to political bribery

Colbert's show was terminated just two days after he slammed the $16 million settlement on live TV, calling it "a big fat bribe" designed to grease the wheels for Paramount's proposed $8.4 billion merger with Skydance Media.

The WGA is adamant that this is not a coincidence, but rather a dangerous capitulation to political pressure. They're urging New York Attorney General Letitia James to launch an investigation into whether Paramount's decision was motivated by a desire to curry favor with the Trump Administration.

But what really raises eyebrows is the timing of the cancellation. It came just days after Colbert's on-air takedown of the settlement, which many saw as a clear attempt to silence him and stifle his free speech. And now, Senator Elizabeth Warren is demanding a federal probe into whether the settlement constituted an illegal attempt to curry favor with the White House!

Trump wasted no time celebrating the move on his Truth Social account

Paramount executives deny any political motive behind the cancellation, claiming it was solely due to declining revenues and shifting industry dynamics. But critics aren't buying it. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has fired off a blistering statement on Twitter, saying: "Stephen Colbert, an extraordinary talent and the most popular late-night host, slams the deal. Days later, he's fired. Do I think this is a coincidence? NO!"

Senator Ed Markey has also weighed in, suggesting possible political interference: "If the Trump administration is using its regulatory authority to influence or otherwise pressure your company's editorial decisions, the public deserves to know."

And then there's Donald Trump himself, who celebrated Colbert's cancellation on his Truth Social account with a gleeful post saying: "I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once-great."

Trump celebrated the cancelling of Colbert's long running chat show

Oh, and did we mention that Jimmy Kimmel, another popular late-night host, has a contract that also runs out next year? He's been hosting his show since 2003, and in a recent Variety interview, he confessed to having moments where he wonders how much longer he wants to do it. "I have moments where I go, I cannot do this anymore," he said. "And I have moments where I go, what am I gonna do with my life if I'm not doing this anymore?"

Meanwhile, the rest of the late-night hosts are rallying around Colbert. Jimmy Kimmel posted an Instagram message saying: "Love you Stephen. F**k you and all your Sheldons CBS." And Fallon? He's still trying to figure out what happened!

But here's the thing – the timing of Colbert's cancellation is suspicious, to say the least. Just days after he slammed the settlement on live TV, Paramount pulled the plug on The Late Show. Coincidence? We think not!

Trump suggested ABC's Jimmy Kimmel, right, would be the next act on the chopping block

And don't even get us started on the numbers. According to ad firm Guideline, advertising revenue for The Late Show has dropped 40% since 2018 from $121.1 million to $70.2 million last year. But here's the thing – the show still drew a nightly average of 1.9 million viewers this past season, more than any other late-night rival!

So what's really going on here? Is Paramount trying to silence Colbert and stifle his free speech? Are they trying to curry favor with the Trump Administration? The Scholarly Note is left wondering...
