Hermes Rutherford Surpasses Mom in Height: A Look Back at Kelly's $2M Custody Battle
Kelly Rutherford's Son Hermes Steals the Spotlight alongside His Mother at a Star-Studded Event
It was a night to remember as Kelly Rutherford walked the red carpet with her stunning son, Hermes Gustaf Daniel Giersch, 18, in New York City on Wednesday. The actress and her handsome teenage son made waves at Biosil's 30th Anniversary Celebration at Fouquet's New York, where they posed together for photos.
Hermes, who is already surpassing his mother's height of 5ft8in, exuded confidence as he rocked a sleek dark suit with a black shirt, paired with a long printed scarf that perfectly complemented his blonde locks. Meanwhile, Kelly stunned in a floor-length off-white sleeveless dress with a mock neck, holding onto an exquisite ivory Hermes Birkin bag.
The mother-son duo was also spotted posing with none other than Kelly's former Gossip Girl costar, Ed Westwick, who looked dashing in a tailored dark suit. It seems like old times are back as the two TV stars reunited on the red carpet.
But let's get to the juicy part! Kelly Rutherford has been making headlines for years due to her tumultuous custody battle with her ex-husband, German businessman Daniel Giersch. The drama-filled six-year legal battle cost Kelly a staggering $2 million in legal fees and even led her to declare bankruptcy!
In 2009, Kelly was granted joint custody of their children, but things took a turn when the judge ruled that Hermes and his sister Helena would have to live full-time with Giersch in Monaco. However, Kelly refused to send them back, citing concerns about their well-being.
As a result, Kelly was accused of abduction, and she had to make frequent visits to Monaco to see her children. But Kelly's determination paid off when she eventually secured joint custody for her kids in Monaco. She even got to live with them in the beautiful principality!
In an interview with Travel + Leisure last October, Kelly raved about Monaco's tranquil atmosphere. "It's actually quite peaceful," she said. "It's the opposite of what everyone thinks it is, for me at least. It's a place you can come and really just be quiet."
Kelly also shared her love for Monaco's rich history, praising Princess Grace Kelly for making the principality glamorous in the 1950s and '60s. "She invited all the Hollywood people to Monaco early on and made it very glamorous," Kelly said.
Today, Monaco is still a haven of old-school charm and tradition but also boasts a thriving cultural scene. As Kelly put it, "It's still very beautiful, traditional, private, but it's also now becoming sort of a cultural center. There's the feeling like it's having another new energy."
But despite all her hardships, Kelly has been living in Monaco with her kids since 2009 and seems to be enjoying the slower pace of life. "I just walk the dogs, hang out with the kids, and run errands," she said. "If there's a gallery opening or something like that, I'll go just to see."
We can't help but admire Kelly Rutherford for her strength and resilience in the face of adversity. It's clear that family comes first for this devoted mom!
