Henry Cavill: The New Frontrunner in the James Bond Race?
BOND BOSS: Henry Cavill is Back in the Running for James Bond Role After Bookies' Odds Plummet
The cat's out of the bag, folks! The next James Bond is still up for grabs, and bookmakers are scrambling to place bets on who will don the iconic tuxedo. And guess what? The man who came close to stealing Daniel Craig's thunder 20 years ago is back in the running - Henry Cavill!
The 42-year-old Superman star was just a mere youngster when he auditioned for the coveted role, but it seems his chances of becoming Bond have skyrocketed since then. Ladbrokes has slashed his odds from a whopping 10/1 to a tantalizing 3/1, making him the current second favorite to take over as the world's greatest spy.
But what makes Henry so suitable for the role? Well, let's just say he's got the looks and the brawn to match. According to Ladbrokes' Cal Gildart, "Henry Cavill seems perfect for the role, but would he make enough of a splash for new rights-holders Amazon?" Ouch! Guess someone's got their doubts about Henry's Bond credentials.
The bookies are still backing Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the frontrunner with odds-on at 8/11, but it looks like Theo James has been left out in the cold - his odds have plummeted from 5/1 to a measly 7/1. Poor Callum Turner is now at 5/1, followed by Harris Dickinson at 8/1 and Tom Holland with odds of 10/1. Jack Lowden rounds up the pack at 10/1.
But what about Henry's chances? Well, it seems like he's still got a shot at becoming Bond - and we can't blame him for trying! In a rather embarrassing clip that has resurfaced online, Henry is seen auditioning for the role in 2002. The footage shows him delivering some of Bond's most iconic lines with ease, including "Bond, James Bond" and ordering a vodka martini (shaken not stirred, of course). Talk about smooth!
Now, we all know what happened next - Daniel Craig went on to play James Bond for five films, bowing out in the 2021 thriller No Time To Die. But what about Henry's rival? Did he ever get over being snubbed by the Bond producers?
According to Martin Campbell, GoldenEye and Casino Royale director, "He looked great in the audition. His acting was tremendous." Ouch! Sounds like someone had high hopes for Henry back then. But alas, it seems his age was a major concern at the time - Campbell revealed that Henry "just looked a little young" for the role.
Now, we know what you're thinking: did Henry ever get over being snubbed? Well, let's just say he went on to have an impressive career without becoming Bond. He starred in The Tudors as Charles Brandon and even got his own Sherlock Holmes spin-off series as Enola Holmes (yes, really!). Guess you could say he's still got a few tricks up his sleeve.
So, will Henry Cavill finally get the chance to become James Bond? We can't wait to find out! With odds this low, it seems like anything is possible - but only time will tell if he'll make enough of a splash for Amazon. Stay tuned, folks!
