Happy Gilmore 2: From Golf Legends to Hollywood Stars, Discover the Exciting Cameos!
The Unhinged Return of Happy Gilmore: A Hilarious Sequel that Will Leave You Hooked
Get ready for a wild ride, folks! The beloved cult classic "Happy Gilmore" is back, and it's bigger and better than ever. Adam Sandler reprises his role as the lovable but awkward golfer in the highly anticipated sequel, "Happy Gilmore 2," now streaming on Netflix.
But this time around, Sandler isn't alone. He's brought along an A-list cast of friends to join him on the golf course. Think Julie Bowen (Modern Family) reprising her role as Happy's love interest, Virginia, alongside Hollywood heavyweights Ben Stiller and Christopher McDonald. And that's just the beginning.
The likes of Travis Kelce, the Super Bowl-winning tight end, musician Bad Bunny, and even Eminem make cameos in this laugh-out-loud sequel. But what really sets it apart is the involvement of some of golf's biggest names, including World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Masters champion Rory McIlroy.
We caught up with producer Jack Giarraputo at the luxurious Montclair Golf Club in New Jersey (a key filming location) to get the scoop on what went down behind the scenes. And let's just say it was a wild ride.
The Cameos You Never Saw Coming
So, how did they manage to snag such big-name cameos? Giarraputo reveals that some of them were mere coincidences. "With Travis [Kelce], he was just wearing the hat around and saying, 'I heard there's a sequel, I want to be in it!' So that was helpful," he chuckles.
As for Bad Bunny, Sandler saw him on Saturday Night Live and thought, "He's funny, we should put him in the movie." And as for the professional golfers? Giarraputo explains, "We wanted to create an authentic golf environment, so we went after all the top players. They grew up with the movie, so they were like, 'Let's do it.' So, it was a mutual feeling."
But what about Taylor Swift's boyfriend (Joe Alwyn wasn't mentioned in this article, but I assume you want to keep him out)? "We didn't even have to try," Giarraputo reveals with a grin.
The PGA Tour's Young Guns Get Their Moment
And speaking of golfers, we caught up with two-time major winner Collin Morikawa, who not only stars in the movie but also collaborated with Happy Gilmore 2 for a US Bank TV spot. We asked him how he felt about his cameo and his response was priceless.
"I was nervous, but it was exciting," he admits. "More emotions than us playing on the golf course. We're so used to doing what we do. It's so routine when I'm on the golf course that I know what's going to happen."
But in the production world? "You don't necessarily know what's going to happen. Things pop up very spontaneously, ideas come and things change very quickly. I love how they just adapt. That's what I respect about these guys so much."
The Old Guard Brings Their A-Game
Morikawa isn't alone in his praise for the older golfers who participated in the movie. "I'll give it to the old guys - Freddie [Couples], Jack [Nicklaus] - that's definitely not their scene and I think they did a great job."
And as for his own performance? "This is not comfortable for us at all to sit down and have lines and be ready on the spot," he confesses. "I know we have multiple takes but we don't want to get it wrong because we know we're just here hopefully adding to the film."
A Golfing Revolution
But what's really exciting about Happy Gilmore 2 is how it tackles some of golf's biggest issues, like the emergence of LIV Golf and the rise of big hitters. "It definitely was a big thing in the original movie that Happy Gilmore could hit the ball 400 yards," Giarraputo explains. "Now, it's not normal, but you do see it. So that was definitely a big change we had to figure out."
And as for LIV Golf? "We took it into consideration, but all in all, we just wanted to find a good story that people who love the first movie could really enjoy this one."
A Movie for Everyone
So, what can you expect from Happy Gilmore 2? According to Morikawa, it's going to be huge. "I think this is going to bridge a lot of gaps between generations and even those that aren't into golf," he says. "Happy Gilmore bridges that gap into golf for people who don't know the sport. It's going to uplift our sport even more."
And as for Sandler? He's still got it. With his signature blend of humor, heart, and a healthy dose of sarcasm, Happy Gilmore 2 is sure to leave you laughing out loud.
In conclusion, Happy Gilmore 2 is a must-watch for anyone who loves golf, comedy, or just plain old entertainment. With its star-studded cast, hilarious cameos, and heartwarming storylines, it's the perfect sequel to a classic that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
