Halle Berry Claps Back at Ex: 'Cooking, Cleaning, and Mothering!'
Halle Berry Claps Back at Ex David Justice: "Cook, Clean, and Mothering"
In a scathing Instagram post, Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry is firing back at her ex-husband David Justice for his recent comments about their marriage in the 1990s. The baseball legend, now 59, claimed that he ended their four-year union because Berry wasn't "motherly" and didn't cook or clean.
Berry, who turned 59 on Monday and celebrated with a tropical getaway, had the perfect response to Justice's shocking revelation: a cheeky caption on her Instagram post, "Phew...! cooking, cleaning and mothering." The caption was accompanied by a stunning photo of the former Bond girl posing in a skimpy gold string bikini by Monday Swimwear.
The news of Justice's comments first surfaced on the podcast "All the Smoke," where he explained that his decision to leave Berry was partly due to his lack of understanding about relationships at the time. However, many fans and followers were quick to call out Justice for his outdated expectations of a partner.
"It's just that I, because I was young, had only been in honestly one real relationship before her," Justice said on the podcast. "My knowledge and my understanding and my wisdom around relationships just wasn't vast."
But Berry's fans weren't having it. They took to social media to express their outrage at Justice's audacity, with many using hashtags like #HalleBerryDeservesBetter and #JusticeForHalle.
"Imagine expecting Halle Berry, the first Black actress to earn $20m for a movie, the #1 most desirable woman in the world for decades, the first Black woman to win an Oscar, to stay home to cook and clean," one fan tweeted. "Men and audacity."
Another fan chimed in, "David Justice tryna make HALLE BERRY cook & clean is CRAZY work. TF was he thinkin?"
Berry's fans also pointed out that Justice's comments were not only outdated but also sexist. "According to their net worths, he needed to be the one throwing the apron on and cleaning the house too," one fan wrote.
The drama between Berry and Justice dates back to their marriage in 1993, which ended in 1997. In his podcast interview, Justice claimed that he realized he didn't want to spend the rest of his life with Berry after she became a star. However, Berry has spoken publicly about how Justice's departure was devastating for her.
In an interview with People magazine back in 1996, Berry revealed that she had been physically abused by an unnamed ex-boyfriend and suffered hearing loss due to a punctured eardrum. Justice claimed on the podcast that he was unaware of this incident and felt betrayed when Berry didn't clarify who it was.
"I thought she was dead wrong for that," Justice said. "I look back on that situation, and I'm like, that girl really did love me."
But many fans are siding with Berry, who has been open about her struggles with domestic violence in the past. As one fan put it, "David's Justice comment about Halle Berry says more about his preferences than her worth. Plenty of great moms don't fit the 'cook, clean, motherly' stereotype. Sometimes it's just a mismatch, not a measure of value."
Berry has been quiet on social media since the news broke, but it seems that she's letting her Instagram post do the talking. The actress is currently in a long-term relationship with musician Van Hunt and has two children with ex-partners Gabriel Aubry and Olivier Martinez.
As for Justice, he's been married to his current wife Rebecca for 24 years and shares two children with her. It's clear that Berry is moving on from their past and focusing on her own happiness – and that's something we can all get behind.
