Guy Fieri's Legal Trouble: Chef Sues Over Failed Chicken Guy Franchise

Celebrity chef Guy Fieri is facing a lawsuit over a failed restaurant that launched as a result of one of his reality shows

"Scandalous! Celebrity Chef Guy Fieri Sued by Winner of Reality Show Who Claims He Never Got Paid"

Get ready for a juicy dish of drama, folks! Guy Fieri, the beloved Food Network personality, is facing a lawsuit from Kevin Cooper, the winner of his reality show "Guy's Chance of a Lifetime." And let me tell you, it's a real recipe for disaster!

In January 2022, Fieri launched the show where seven talented chefs vied for the chance to run their own Chicken Guy franchise. And the big winner was Kevin Cooper from Philadelphia! The package deal included a whopping $100,000 guaranteed salary for the first year, plus a waived franchise fee, and $10,000 set aside for any legal expenses. Talk about a fowl-some prize!

Kevin Cooper (left), a chef from Philadelphia, was named the winner, with his winner's package also set to include a $100,000 guaranteed salary for the first year, along with a waived franchise fee, $10,000 set aside for any legal expenses plus assistance with the build-out space and operational expenses that exceeded revenue in the first year

But things took a dark turn when Cooper's Chicken Guy franchise opened at the King of Prussia Mall outside Philly in February 2024. And just over a year later, it closed its doors for good in late February 2025. No reason was given for the sudden shutdown, but sources close to the matter say it was a financial nightmare.

And now, Cooper has filed a lawsuit against Fieri's company, Chicken Guy LLC and Earl Enterprises LLC. The suit alleges that Fieri never delivered on his promises, specifically the $100,000 salary and operational expenses that exceeded revenue. Ouch!

According to the filing, Cooper repeatedly requested the guaranteed salary, but it never materialized. And those promised operational expenses? Forget about it! They totaled a whopping $69,000, with a staggering $39,000 going towards Pennsylvania sales taxes alone.

While no reason was given for the closing, Philly Mag reports that Cooper filed a lawsuit against Fieri's company's Chicken Guy LLC and Earl Enterprises LLC

So, what's behind this culinary conundrum? Is Fieri trying to pull the wool over Cooper's eyes? Has he got some 'splainin' to do?

TheScholarlyNote.com has reached out to multiple reps for Fieri for comment and... crickets! No response yet. But we'll be keeping a keen eye on this developing story.

In the meantime, Cooper has been hinting at his legal woes on social media. Last Sunday, he posted a cryptic video on Instagram that left many wondering what was really going down:

The lawsuit alleges that Fieri never provided that guaranteed $100,000 salary, despite requesting it numerous times

"I know y'all have noticed I've been a little quiet lately... not just on social media, but in general," he began. "There are some blessings in the quiet, right? There were moments where I didn't even want to speak my truth because the version of God that was handed down by my ancestors wasn't the version that I came to know in my quiet space."

He went on to reveal that he'd been holding back for a long time, not wanting to become "just another black man pushing the blame" after being "done dirty." But then he had an epiphany:

"I forgave. I came to know the Christ before those chains. I came to know the Christ who walked across Africa before those boats came... Jesus was the one who broke chains, not the one who bound people to them."

The filing adds that he also never provided operational expenses that exceeded the shop's revenue, as promised.

So what's next for Cooper? Will he get his day in court and finally get the justice he deserves? Stay tuned for more updates on this juicy celebrity feud!

And don't forget, folks, Kevin Cooper wasn't just a winner on "Guy's Chance of a Lifetime." He's also a seasoned chef who's competed on other Food Network shows like "Cooks Vs. Cons," "Guy's Grocery Games," and "Fire Masters" on Food Network Canada!

The lawsuit is seeking the $100,000 salary and expenses that were promised after winning the reality series
