Gigi Hadid Opens Up About Body-Shaming After Victoria's Secret Debut

Gigi Hadid, 30, became emotional as she recalled body-shaming comments after she made her Victoria's Secret runway debut 10 years earlier

GIGI HADID GETS EMOTIONAL RECALLING BODY-SHAMING COMMENTS FROM 10 YEARS AGO

The Victoria's Secret supermodel, Gigi Hadid, has opened up about the body-shaming comments she received after making her runway debut 10 years ago. In a recent video shared by the lingerie brand on Instagram, Hadid got emotional as she reflected on the harsh criticism she faced.

Hadid, who is gearing up to walk the catwalk for the 2025 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show later this month, recalled trying out for the show "two or three times" before landing a coveted spot in 2015. The 30-year-old supermodel gushed about her younger self, saying she was "just so happy" and "deserved to be there."

However, things took a turn when Hadid started talking about the body-shaming comments she received at the time. She said, "The world was so hard on her. And not just me, but girls in general." The model's voice cracked as she continued, "I look back at pictures and I'm like, 'I was the s**t.' Like that was an awesome time."

Hadid hit back at body-shaming comments during an interview with Vogue after her 2015 runway debut. She told the publication, "Yeah, I'm an athletic person. But I love my body because I know what it's been through to be what it is, and honestly I'm not going to change for someone that is depressed about their life."

The supermodel continued to defend herself on social media, saying, "No, I don't think I have the same body type as the other models in shows. No, I don't think I am the best at any given show." Hadid emphasized her confidence and hard work ethic, stating, "I'm a hard worker that's confident in myself, one that came at a time where the fashion industry was ready for a change."

'So, you can imagine what I felt when I got my first show,' she expressed and gushed that she is 'just so happy for her' - referencing to the younger version of herself

It seems like Hadid has come full circle, as she prepares to walk the Victoria's Secret runway again. In the recent video shared by the lingerie brand, Hadid confessed to still getting nervous before walking the catwalk. "I feel the responsibility of like, doing the best that I can for the huge team that is behind this show," she said.

The 2025 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show will feature musical guests including Missy Elliott, Madison Beer, Karol G, and Twice. The event will be livestreamed on Amazon Prime Video on October 15, with the actual show taking place in New York City.

She added, 'And to continue to come back to this show just so happy for her - that girl that got the first show, and also my teenage self who watched the show'

While getting ready to strut on the runway for Victoria's Secret, Hadid also made a rare reference to her boyfriend Bradley Cooper. The model shared a photo of herself lounging on a comfy couch as she promoted the actor's upcoming movie, Is This Thing On?. In the caption, Hadid gushed about Cooper, saying "Congratulations to my love!"

Hadid and Cooper have been dating since October 2023, and the model has been vocal about her relationship with him. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight last year, Hadid said that Cooper was supporting her from home as she walked on the catwalk for the 2024 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

Cooper is both starring in and directing his new movie, Is This Thing On?. The comedic drama follows Alex (played by Will Arnett), a middle-aged man facing divorce and seeking new purpose in the New York comedy scene. Meanwhile, Alex's wife Tess (played by Laura Dern) confronts sacrifices made for their family, forcing them to navigate co-parenting and identities.

The movie had its official screening at the New York Film Festival on Friday, with Cooper both starring and directing. The Oscar-nominated actor has also directed films like A Star Is Born (2018) and Maestro (2023).

Hadid and Cooper were first spotted together in October 2023 when they were seen grabbing dinner in NYC. Since then, the couple has been inseparable. In March of this year, Hadid gave rare insight into her relationship with Cooper during an interview with Vogue.

She told the publication that Cooper had given her a "normal experience of dating" and added that he had introduced her to going to the theater again. Hadid also emphasized the importance of finding someone who knows what they want and deserve in a relationship, saying, "I just feel really lucky."
