From Vogue to the Mott50 Runway: Niki Taylor's Timeless Journey

Supermodel Niki Taylor was a top star. Seen on the runway in the early 1990s

Supermodel Niki Taylor is Back and Better than Ever!

Get ready for a blast from the past as iconic 90s supermodel Niki Taylor makes her triumphant return to the runway! This blonde bombshell was one of the most sought-after models of her era, gracing the covers of top fashion mags like Vogue, Elle, and Shape, alongside fellow supermodels Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, and Christy Turlington.

But what made Niki stand out from the crowd? For starters, she was a CoverGirl model extraordinaire, landing the title of youngest person to be featured on People's Most Beautiful People. And in 1996, she made history by starring on the cover of not one, not two, but SIX major magazines – Vogue, Allure, Elle, Marie Claire, Self, and Shape – all in the same month!

Niki's rise to fame was swift and impressive. At just 14 years old, she landed her first cover for Seventeen magazine, and by 15, she was gracing the front page of Vogue (becoming the second youngest person to do so). Her subsequent campaigns with top brands like L'Oreal, Gap, Versace, and Jean Paul Gaultier solidified her status as a fashion icon.

But Niki's story is not just about her impressive modeling career. In 2024, she opened up to TheScholarlyNote.com about the stigma surrounding aging in the fashion industry. "For years, I've seen people talking about models having a 'shelf life'," she explained. "But age is just a number – we're all getting older, and it's okay to change."

Niki credits the shift towards greater diversity and inclusivity in the industry for allowing models like herself to continue thriving well into their 30s and beyond. "It was unheard of to see a fashion model in her 30s back in the day," she noted wryly. "But I prefer the word 'timeless' over 'ageless'. It's more about who you are, not how old you are."

The superstar's first ever magazine cover shoot saw her featured on the front of Seventeen in 1989 (pictured), and she went on to pose for the likes of Vogue, Allure, and Elle

And speaking of age, Niki has certainly defied convention when it comes to looking youthful. But what most fans may not know is that her life has taken a dramatic turn since her heyday. The supermodel is now a devoted mother of four – twin sons Jake and Hunter (with ex-husband Matt Martinez), and daughter Ciel and son Rex with her husband of over 14 years, Burney Lamar.

But balancing work and family life hasn't always been easy for Niki. In fact, she's spoken candidly about the challenges she faced in the wake of her sister Krissy's sudden passing from heart disease at just 17 (in 1995). "We were incredibly close," Niki shared with Oprah in 2014. "I miss her every day."

And if that wasn't enough drama, Niki herself was involved in a near-fatal car accident in Atlanta, Georgia, while being driven by then-boyfriend Chad Renegar (in 2001). She's spoken about how she dealt with the trauma and has since become an advocate for two charities close to her heart: the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association.

Now, Niki is back on the runway – and this time, she's bringing a new perspective. Alongside Puerto Rican actress Dayanara Torres (ex-wife of Jennifer Lopez's ex Marc Anthony), Niki will be strutting her stuff at the Mott50 Edition & Coolibar Sun Safe Soirée fashion presentation in NYC on September 18.

So what can fans expect from Niki's return to the runway? "It's a new chapter for me," she shared. "I'm excited to show people that I'm still here, and I'm not going anywhere!"
