Erin Moriarty Opens Up About Battling Graves' Disease, Like Wendy Williams

Erin Moriarty, 30, gave a health update to her fans and revealed that she is currently battling an autoimmune disorder called Graves' disease

THE BOYS ACTRESS ERIN MORIARTY SHOCKS FANS WITH AUTOIMMUNE DISORDER DIAGNOSIS: "MY LIFE WAS DIMMING, BUT THANK GOD FOR TREATMENT"

In a candid Instagram post that has left fans and fellow celebrities alike reeling, Erin Moriarty, the 30-year-old star of The Boys, has revealed her shocking battle with an autoimmune disorder. The actress, who rose to fame for her portrayal of Annie January/Starlight in the hit Amazon Prime Video series, has been open about her struggles with Graves' disease.

Graves' disease is a chronic condition caused by an overproduction of thyroid hormones, leading to symptoms such as fatigue, bulging eyes, heart palpitations, and anxiety. The disease can be devastating for those who suffer from it, but Moriarty's recent diagnosis and subsequent treatment have brought her newfound hope.

The Boys actress - who quit social media amid plastic surgery allegations last year - jumped to Instagram this week to get candid with her 2 million followers about her own 'experience'; seen above in Amazon Prime Video series The Boys

"I was living in a state of constant exhaustion," Moriarty confessed to her 2 million followers on Instagram. "I chalked it up to stress and fatigue, but looking back, I realize that I was ignoring the warning signs. If I hadn't caught this sooner, who knows what would have happened?"

The actress's diagnosis has sparked a wave of support from fans and fellow celebrities alike. Wendy Williams, Daisy Ridley, and Missy Elliott are just a few of the stars who have been open about their own battles with autoimmune disorders.

Moriarty's journey to diagnosis was a long and arduous one. She had been experiencing symptoms for months before finally seeking medical attention. In her post, she shared screenshots of text conversations with her parents, in which she expressed her frustration and desperation.

The star uploaded a series of snaps, which included selfies and other moments from her life in recent months

"I feel nauseated tonight," she wrote. "I feel so s**t and removed from who I am... It's not just fatigue - it's an ineffable, system-wide cry for help."

But Moriarty's story doesn't end there. After beginning treatment, the actress reported a dramatic turnaround in her health.

"Within 24 hours of starting treatment, I felt the light coming back on," she exclaimed. "It's been increasing in strength ever since... If yours is dimming, even slightly, go get checked. Don't 'suck it up' and transcend suffering; you deserve to be comfy."

The actress's return to Instagram comes after a tumultuous year. Last January, Moriarty announced that she was taking an "extensive, if not permanent" break from the platform following allegations of plastic surgery obsession.

Megyn Kelly had sparked outrage with her comments on The Erin Moriarty Show, stating that the actress's appearance was a sign of "mental illness." Moriarty responded with a lengthy statement, announcing her departure from social media and vowing to prioritize her mental health.

"I will not have access to this account for an extensive if not permanent break," she wrote. "Social media is not something that came naturally to me... You never know what someone is going through, social media is a platform that is not representative of a whole person."

But it seems Moriarty has returned to the platform with a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to openness. Her recent post has sparked a wave of support from fans, who have been praising her for her courage and vulnerability.

As The Boys actress continues on her journey towards recovery, fans will be watching with bated breath. Will she continue to open up about her struggles, or will she take the opportunity to start anew? One thing is certain: Erin Moriarty's resilience in the face of adversity has inspired a nation.
