Emma Stone Revives Gwyneth Paltrow's Iconic Green Ensembles from 'Great Expectations'

Emma Stone, 36, channeled Gwyneth Paltrow's iconic look from the 1998 film Great Expectations during an outing in NYC on Wednesday

SPOTTED: Emma Stone Channels Gwyneth Paltrow's Iconic Look from Great Expectations, But What's Really Going On Behind the Scenes of Her New Movie Bugonia?

The 36-year-old Oscar winner was seen arriving at The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Wednesday, and she was serving up a major dose of nostalgia. Emma Stone channeled Gwyneth Paltrow's iconic look from the 1998 film Great Expectations, but it seems like there's more to this retro-inspired outfit than meets the eye.

According to insiders close to The Scholarly Note, Stone has been busy promoting her new movie Bugonia, and it's clear that she's putting everything on the line for this black comedy. With a cast that includes Jesse Plemons and Alicia Silverstone, the stakes are high, but Stone seems determined to bring home the laughs.

Stone flashed a cheerful smile wearing a green cardigan secured with a clasp at the front from the brand's Spring/Summer 1996 collection and opted to not don a top underneath

So, what makes this movie so special? According to IMDB, the premise is pure gold: "Two conspiracy-obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth." Talk about a wild ride! And with Stone and Plemons at the helm, it's clear that this movie is going to be a real laugh-out-loud fest.

But behind the scenes, things got intense. In an exclusive interview with People, Plemons revealed that shooting Bugonia was like "a sprint marathon" – and not just physically. The actor opened up about the mental toll of filming in a claustrophobic basement set, saying, "You're packed in like sardines." Ouch!

Stone echoed his sentiments, explaining that it was an "intense" experience to film scenes with such limited space. But the actress also revealed that she and Plemons would often find ways to make each other laugh – even when the cameras weren't rolling.

The Oscar winner chose to not add flashy pieces of jewelry to allow the daytime look to be the main focal point

"We'd have conversations about our kids," Plemons said, smiling. Stone chimed in, "It's funny, because [you] can't keep us from talking about our kids!" The two stars are clearly a match made in heaven, both on and off screen.

And speaking of aliens... it turns out that Stone is a total believer! In a recent press conference at the Venice Film Festival (per Variety), the actress revealed her fascination with the possibility of extraterrestrial life. "I don't know about looking down on us, but one of my favorite people who has ever lived is Carl Sagan," she said, referencing the renowned astronomer.

Stone continued, "He very deeply believed the idea that we're alone in this vast expansive universe – not that we're being watched – is a pretty narcissistic thing." So, what's her verdict on aliens? "So yes I'm coming out and saying it, I believe in aliens!"

The star has taken on a leading role in the upcoming black comedy Bugonia - which was directed by Yorgos Lanthimos

With all this drama going down behind the scenes of Bugonia, it's no wonder that Emma Stone turned heads at the movie's premiere in NYC earlier this week. The actress stunned in an off-white Louis Vuitton gown with a shimmering silver trim – but we're more interested in what's happening off the red carpet.

The big question on everyone's mind: will Bugonia be a comedy masterpiece, or a disaster waiting to happen? With Stone and Plemons at the helm, we've got our fingers crossed for the former. And who knows? Maybe Emma Stone's aliens will even make an appearance...

Bugonia hits theaters on October 24 – mark your calendars!

'It felt like such a sprint marathon, the movie, that it doesn't let up,' the actor told People, before noting the 'mental and physical' toll shooting the black comedy had taken on the them; Plemons and Stone seen earlier this month in NYC

Stone explained that it had been 'intense' to film scenes due to the claustrophobic nature of the set - a basement - and expressed 'you're packed in like sardines'
