Emma Stone Recounts Mortifying Mom Moment with Angelina Jolie!
Golden Globes Gaffe: Emma Stone Dishes on Embarrassing Moment with Mom and Angelina Jolie
In a candid conversation with Vogue, Emma Stone revisited one of the most cringe-worthy moments of her career - bringing her mom as her date to the 2011 Golden Globes and sharing a table with Hollywood royalty Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. The 36-year-old actress recalled the evening with a mix of laughter and hindsight.
"It was a really, really fun night because I brought my mom and we sat next to Angelina Jolie, who's like a superhero or something," Emma said with a chuckle, remembering how her mom, Krista Stone, got starstruck. "My mom asked Angelina if she had any kids, and I was like, 'Mom, you know she has six kids!' But Angelina just smiled and played along."
The Golden Globes red carpet is always a spectacle, but Emma described the tables as being like "big, round fishbowls" where celebrities are constantly interacting with each other. She joked that everyone looks shorter than they do in photos, except for Conan O'Brien, who stands at an impressive 7'1".
Emma had previously shared this story on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2020, but she went into even more detail with Vogue. "We were like, 'Of all people to be sitting next to at that kind of a show, whoa,'" she recalled. "My mom never drinks, and she had champagne that night, which was probably not the best idea, but she was having a wonderful time."
The actress emphasized how her mom, despite knowing Angelina's family situation, pretended not to know in order to have some light-hearted conversation. "She knew everything, but they were so nice, and we had a blast," Emma said with a smile.
In addition to reliving the Golden Globes gaffe, Emma also shared her thoughts on her fashion choices during that time. Specifically, she expressed regret over getting a spray tan that matched her dress's peach tone at the 2011 awards show.
"I look like one solid thumb!" she joked about her now-embarrassing look. "And that dress was so pretty - I just don't understand why I thought it was a good idea to match my skin tone to the dress."
The mom of one continued, "That's what bums me out about this... is it's such a beautiful dress, such a beautiful shape, and I just... I really thought that the tan was the move."
As Vogue's September cover star, Emma also opened up about her personal life, including her four-year-old daughter Louise Jean, whom she shares with husband Dave McCary. "There's nothing I feel luckier about," Stone gushed. "She's the greatest gift of my life, for sure."
Emma's conversation with Vogue is a rare glimpse into her private life, and fans are eager to see more of this charming actress outside of her usual red-carpet appearances.
