Emma Stone Confirms: 'I Believe in Aliens!' at Venice Film Festival
BREAKING: Emma Stone Spills Tea on Aliens, Her Hair-Raising Transformation, and Why She's a Fan of Carl Sagan
In a shocking confession that has left fans and critics alike buzzing, Oscar-winning actress Emma Stone revealed her unapologetic love for aliens at a press conference in Venice on Thursday. The 36-year-old beauty was promoting her latest film, Bugonia, a dark comedy directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, where she plays a CEO who may or may not be an extraterrestrial being herself.
When asked about the existence of an "ultimate intelligence" watching over humanity, Stone didn't hesitate to express her admiration for the late astrophysicist Carl Sagan. "I don't know if they're looking down on us," she quipped, "but one of my favorite people who has ever lived is Carl Sagan. I mean, have you seen Cosmos? It's like a spiritual experience! His philosophy and science are simply brilliant."
Stone's enthusiasm for Sagan's work was palpable as she gushed about his groundbreaking show. "He very deeply believed that the idea we're alone in this vast universe is a pretty narcissistic thing to think," she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "So, yes! I'm coming out and saying it: I believe in aliens!"
But Stone's candid confession wasn't the only jaw-dropping moment from the press conference. Earlier, she had playfully poked fun at the idea of her possibly turning into an alien after achieving success. When asked how she deals with fame without losing her humanity, she shot back with a mischievous grin: "How do you know I'm not an alien?"
As it turns out, Stone's quirky sense of humor is just one aspect of her charming personality. Behind the scenes, however, she revealed a more vulnerable side while discussing her film, Bugonia. In a rare interview with Vogue magazine, Stone opened up about shaving her head for the role and how it brought back painful memories of her mother, Krista Stone's, battle with triple-negative breast cancer.
Stone's mom had indeed lost all her hair during treatment in 2008, but Emma took a different approach to channeling her character's transformation. "I remember moments before filming that scene, I just burst into tears," she recalled, her voice trembling with emotion. "My mom was like, 'I'm so jealous! I want to shave my head again!' It was an incredible moment."
The actress also shared a sweet anecdote about celebrating her mother's cancer-free status in 2008 by getting matching tattoos of birds' feet with Paul McCartney. The Beatles legend had designed the inked masterpieces for the Stone family, who are huge fans of the iconic band.
But what really has tongues wagging is Stone's film, Bugonia, which is generating buzz not only due to its thought-provoking themes but also because of its stunning visuals and performances. Set in a dystopian world where conspiracy theories run rampant, the movie follows two men who kidnap an influential CEO (played by Stone) after suspecting her of being an alien with sinister intentions.
Co-star Jesse Plemons, who plays one of the kidnappers, revealed that their characters' actions are eerily reflective of real-world events. "It's a very easy script to read," he said wryly. "Teddy is running... for pretty much the whole third act!"
Lanthimos, known for his unflinching approach to storytelling, emphasized the film's focus on humanity's reckoning with technology, AI, wars, and climate change. "We're facing a turning point soon," he warned. "People need to choose the right path, or... I don't know how much time we have left."
Bugonia has already made waves at several international film festivals, earning nominations for Best Film in Venice and the San Sebastian Audience Award. With its thought-provoking themes, stunning visuals, and talented cast, this sci-fi flick is sure to captivate audiences when it hits theaters on November 7th, 2025.
As for Emma Stone's newfound love for aliens? It seems like a cosmic match made in heaven!
