Bruce Willis' Wife Emma Speaks Out Against Judgmental Critics: "Caregivers Are Judged Quickly and Unfairly"

In a candid and emotional video posted on Instagram, Bruce Willis' wife Emma Heming has addressed the harsh criticism she's faced from fans and viewers since opening up about their family's journey with dementia. The 47-year-old British-American model, who has been caring for her husband, 70, as he battles frontotemporal dementia (FTD), took to social media to share her thoughts on the judgmental comments she's received.

Emma, who has been open about their experiences in a joint ABC special with Diane Sawyer entitled "Emma and Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey," revealed that she's been shocked by the negative feedback. In a passionate post, she wrote:

"Too often, caregivers are judged quickly and unfairly by those who haven’t lived this journey or stood on the front lines of it... Sharing openly may invite opinions, but more importantly, it creates connection and validation for those actually navigating the realities of caregiving every day."

The model added that she's received criticism from viewers over her decisions regarding Bruce's care, including moving him into a separate one-story house with a full-time care team. Emma explained that this was done to provide their daughters, Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, with a safe and nurturing environment while visiting their father.

"Bruce would want that for our daughters," Emma said. "He would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs."

Now Emma, 47, said she has received criticism from viewers over the choices she has made while helping Bruce, 70, cope with his illness

In the same video, Emma shared an excerpt from her upcoming memoir, "The Unexpected Journey," which hits shelves on September 9. She recalled a therapist's advice: "Nothing changes an opinion quite as powerfully as when you have an experience... Even if someone is closely familiar with dementia or the condition you are caring for, they aren't in your home, so they don't know how your person is behaving or your family dynamics."

The comments section of Emma's post was filled with supportive messages from fans and loved ones. Bruce's daughter Tallulah, 31, whom he shares with his first wife Demi Moore, gushed: "I love you so much. We love you so much. Thank you for all you do for us and our family."

It seems that the Hollywood community has rallied around Emma and Bruce as they navigate this difficult time. In fact, Bruce's family, including ex-wife Demi, have been incredibly supportive in helping him cope with his health struggles.

She recently revealed that the 'hardest decision' she took while looking after him was moving him into a separate one-story house away from their primary residence

The actor's diagnosis with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) was announced last year, after he initially withdrew from Hollywood due to a brain condition called aphasia. According to Emma, Bruce is still "very mobile" and in "really great health overall," but it's his brain that's failing him.

In the joint ABC special, Emma explained: "We have a way of communicating with him that is just a different, a different way, but I'm grateful... I'm grateful that my husband is still very much here."

As fans and loved ones continue to show their support for the Willis family, Emma's message remains clear: caregivers are often judged unfairly, but by sharing their experiences openly, they can create connection and validation with those who truly understand.

He lives there with a full-time care team, while Emma brings their daughters Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, to visit him 'a lot,' including for breakfast and dinner
