The power couple Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are celebrating their 17th wedding anniversary in style! The beloved comedienne marked the occasion by posting a heartwarming video from their special day on Instagram. But what's more interesting is that they're also navigating some major changes in their lives, including selling their luxurious UK home just a year after buying it.
The 67-year-old star shared a sweet clip from their wedding day, showcasing the couple's casual and carefree vibes as they surveyed the preparations for their big day. The video featured pink flowers being brought in, crystal being placed on tables, and name cards and silverware being set out for dozens of guests. Ellen captioned the post with a heartfelt message: "Happy 17th anniversary of the best day of my life. Portia, I love you more every day #MarriageForAll." She also gave shoutouts to fashion designer Zac Posen and singer-songwriter Joshua Radin.
But what's behind their decision to sell their UK home? According to sources, the couple bought a 43-acre estate in the Cotswolds for £20 million just last year. However, they've now put it on the market for £22.5 million because they need more space – specifically, space for Portia's beloved horses!
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal via realtors Sotheby's, Ellen explained their decision: "When we decided to live here full-time, we knew that Portia couldn't live without her horses. We needed a home that had a horse facility and pastures for them." It seems they've already moved on to another property with enough space for the horses while waiting for their current home to sell.
The stunning estate in Oxfordshire boasts an impressive array of amenities, including a two-bedroomed guest house, a swimming pool, gym, and even a 'party barn' complete with its own pub! However, it looks like the couple only spent around four weeks in the property before moving out. Talk about a short-lived dream home!
But don't worry, fans – Ellen is still loving her time in the UK. Speaking at an event in Cheltenham's Everyman theatre on July 20, she gushed: "It's absolutely beautiful. We're just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture – everything you see is charming, and it's just a simpler way of life."
Ellen went on to reveal that they've brought Portia's horses over from the US and have even expanded their animal menagerie: "Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks." It seems like they're embracing the countryside lifestyle with open arms!
The couple initially planned to spend only a few months in the UK but soon fell in love with the country. They moved to Britain in 2024 and are clearly enjoying their time exploring the villages and towns.
So, what's next for Ellen and Portia? Only time will tell! But one thing is certain – they're still going strong after 17 years together.
