Ed Sheeran Opens Up About Threats in Spotlight and New Security Regimen
ED SHEERAN SPILLS THE TEA ON HIS LIFE IN THE LIMELIGHT: 24-HOUR SECURITY, CELEBRITY PALS, AND A STARRING ROLE IN HIS OWN THRILLER
Get ready for a juicy dose of Ed Sheeran's life in the fast lane! The Galway Girl hitmaker has opened up about his decision to hire 24-hour security for himself and his family, citing "dangerous people" who have been lurking around his sprawling Suffolk home, aka Sheeranville.
In an exclusive chat with Louis Theroux on his podcast, Ed revealed that the added security measures are a direct result of some unsettling incidents over the years. When asked about life in the public eye, Ed candidly shared that there's an "underlying thing" that nobody talks about – namely, the constant threat of break-ins and stalker situations.
"I do think that there is a different kind of normal that is our business," he confessed. "I have like 24-hour security on my house. I have security with my kids. I have security with me. I have security with my wife, just because there have been a couple of weird things over the years that have happened."
But Ed's not one to let fear get the best of him! In fact, he's got a stellar cast of celebrity friends who've helped him navigate the ups and downs of fame. From Elton John to Stormzy, Eminem, and even Van Morrison (who once woke him up at 6 am for breakfast after a late-night bender with Rory McIlroy), Ed's got some serious A-list cred.
And let's not forget about his own chart-topping hits! Ed recently spilled the beans on his new song, inspired by his $100 million copyright trial. The track, which he performed at Radio 1's Big Weekend, is a reflection of his emotional journey through the lawsuit and its aftermath.
"I wrote this song called Old Phone," he shared with the crowd. "The judge ordered me to give up my old devices to the other lawyers for them to go through all my text messages and emails and photos and stuff like that. And in that process, I switched on a phone that I had not looked at in 10 years... it was like looking into the past."
With his music and his life constantly under scrutiny, Ed's learned to roll with the punches – even when they come from unexpected places. Like the time he gave Stormzy a ride to the pub after buying him his first car (a Mini that didn't quite fit the rapper in the backseat).
"He seems like he'd be quite shy but I don't think he is when you get to know him," Ed chuckled. "His humour is very similar to mine."
And speaking of humor, Ed's got a wicked sense of it! When asked about his pal Dave (who's also an incredible producer and writer), Ed quipped: "He's done a lot of production on the new record because aside from being a brilliant lyricist, he's also an incredible producer and writer."
It seems that Ed Sheeran is ready to take on whatever life throws at him – with a healthy dose of humor, 24-hour security, and a whole lot of celebrity friends by his side. Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling ride!
