Diddy's Shocking Sketch Critique: 'Koala Bear' Outburst in Court!

Sketch artist Jane Rosenberg recounted how Sean 'Diddy' Combs had a problem with her depiction of him during his sex trafficking trial

Diddy's Drama: Rapper Goes Ballistic on Sketch Artist Who Dared to Depict Him As a "Koala Bear"

Sean 'Diddy' Combs, the 55-year-old music mogul, has never been one to shy away from drama. But his latest outburst at a sketch artist who dared to portray him during his high-profile sex trafficking trial takes the cake. The rapper's tantrum was so intense that it left everyone in the courtroom stunned.

According to court sketches commissioned by Jane Rosenberg, Diddy looked like he was about to have a nervous breakdown when jurors announced their verdict earlier this week. While he was found not guilty of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, he was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. But what really got under his skin was the way Rosenberg drew him.

Diddy's beef with Rosenberg started during a break in proceedings last month when he mouthed something at her from across the courtroom. At first, she couldn't make out what he was trying to say, but when he repeated himself, she realized he wanted her to make him look "softer". Yes, you read that right – softer! The rapper pointed to his mouth and mouthed the words, "Make me look like a movie star." Rosenberg, being the professional that she is, took it in stride.

But what happened next was pure gold. As she recounted to PEOPLE magazine, Diddy's mother, Janice Combs, and his sons were in the elevator with her later that day. When she mentioned that Diddy had told her to make him look softer, they all burst out laughing. "In the elevator, they were saying 'Thank you for being such an unbiased artist,'" Rosenberg said, chuckling. "And I told them, 'Today, Diddy said I made him look like a koala bear.' And they all started chuckling."

But that wasn't the end of it. When PEOPLE asked Rosenberg about drawing celebrities at their high-profile trials, she revealed that it's not an easy task. "He was not a simple likeness to do," she said of Diddy. "He's got an unusual look. And he doesn't look anything like he used to." She admitted that it took her some time to figure out how to properly draw the hip hop artist.

As a seasoned sketch artist with 45 years of experience, Rosenberg has seen her fair share of drama. She recalled that even former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani once told her she made him look like a dog. Harvey Weinstein, on the other hand, asked her to give him more hair in his sketches. And let's not forget John Gotti, who requested that she trim down his chin.

But one celebrity who really got under her skin was President Donald Trump. She revealed that he once stood over one of her sketches and said, "I need to lose some weight." Rosenberg has written a memoir about her experiences as a courtroom sketch artist, entitled 'Drawn Testimony: My Four Decades as a Courtroom Sketch Artist'.

However, the worst criticism she's ever faced came in 2015 when she drew former Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady during an NFL hearing on the "Deflategate" scandal. She admitted that she didn't even know who the star quarterback was at the time, but when she returned home from work, she was bombarded with hundreds of emails. Fans of Brady panned her for making him look like he was "put in one of those machines that crushes cars". Yes, you read that right – a machine that crushes cars!

Rosenberg published a memoir of her court sketches last year

As Rosenberg recounted to PEOPLE magazine, the backlash was so intense that it went viral. Netizens put her sketch next to ET on the poster for the classic movie, or even the face in The Scream, by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch. "I didn't know what memes were," she said with a chuckle. "But I certainly learned the what memes were."

In the end, Rosenberg was forced to apologize as she had "nightmares" about her viral fame. "I didn’t make Tom Brady look as handsome as he is," she told WBZ Boston. "I apologize to Tom Brady. And all the NFL fans." She added: "He’s a very handsome guy. It’s very hard in a very short time to get somebody so good-looking to look as good as they look [in person]."

So, what's the takeaway from this juicy drama? Even Diddy can't escape the criticism of a sketch artist who dares to depict him as he really is – a little too "koala bear" for his taste. But Rosenberg has taken it all in stride, proving that she's one of the most seasoned and professional courtroom sketch artists around.
