Dianna Agron Reflects on Glee's 'Death Curse': A Heartfelt Tribute to Lost Co-Stars
Glee Star Dianna Agron Opens Up About Her Late Co-Stars, Revealing a Glimpse into Their Lives Behind the Scenes
In an emotional and rare interview, Dianna Agron, the 39-year-old star of Fox's hit musical drama series Glee, spoke candidly about her late co-stars Cory Monteith, Mark Salling, and Naya Rivera. The actress, who played the beloved Quinn Fabray on the show from 2009 to 2015, shared heartfelt memories and anecdotes that showcased the close-knit relationships she had with her former castmates.
During an appearance on the And That's What You REALLY Missed podcast on Wednesday, Agron spoke with host Jenna Ushkowitz, a fellow Glee alum. The conversation was filled with warmth and nostalgia as Agron reflected on the tender moments she shared with her late co-stars. "It's hard to think of our loved ones from the show not being present with us anymore because they feel so present in my heart, body, mind, soul, all of it," Agron confessed.
Her words were a testament to the deep bond she had formed with Monteith, Salling, and Rivera. "I think that tenderness I feel and the memories that I have [of] who Cory, Naya, and Mark were as people, as cast members, as our friends and family [are] just so vivid," Agron said, her voice filled with emotion.
Agron's eyes sparkled as she reminisced about Monteith, whom she affectionately referred to as a "teddy bear." The Canadian actor, who played Finn Hudson on the show, tragically passed away in 2013 at the age of 31 due to an accidental drug overdose. "He was this tall, big brotherly presence in all of our lives," Agron said. "Just felt so safe and equally excited about what he was getting to experience with his character."
Agron also shared a heartwarming story about Monteith's kindness. "I remember this one time that he was having people swim in his backyard," she began, her eyes lighting up. "My brother had come down, and [Cory] said, 'Oh, you're squinting a lot. Do you not have a pair of sunglasses?' He was like, 'Oh, no, I don't,' and [Cory] took him into his room. He's, like, 'These are all my sunglasses. Just take a pair.'" Agron chuckled as she recalled the sweet gesture.
The conversation also turned to Mark Salling, who played Puck on the show, and tragically passed away in 2018 at the age of 35 after taking his own life while awaiting sentencing for possessing child sex abuse images. Agron spoke fondly of Salling's talent and charisma. "Mark was this incredibly talented guy, but also just a beautiful soul," she said.
Agron also remembered her late co-star Naya Rivera, who played Santana Lopez on the show. Tragically, Rivera passed away in 2020 at the age of 33 after saving her young son Josey during a drowning incident in Lake Piru, California. Agron spoke about the impact Rivera had on the set. "Naya was just this sparkly presence," Agron said. "She brought this energy and light to everything she did."
The reunion of former Glee stars has been making headlines lately. In April, Lea Michele, 38, posted a photo of herself with co-stars Dianna Agron and Darren Criss on her Instagram Stories. The snap showed the three actresses smiling together after watching Criss perform in Maybe Happy Ending. "Night out with my beautiful friend from high school to see our former classmate perform on Broadway," Michele captioned the photo.
Criss, 38, recently made history as the first Asian-American actor to win two Tony Awards: Best Actor in a Musical and producer for the Best Musical winner. Agron and Criss have been open about their experiences on Glee, including the challenges they faced during filming.
The conversation on the And That's What You REALLY Missed podcast highlighted the close relationships between the Glee cast members and the devastating impact of losing them. The episode is a must-listen for fans of the show and anyone who has ever lost someone close to them.
