SCANDAL ROCKS MEXICAN MUSIC SCENE: Beloved Narcocorrido Star Ernesto Barajas Gunned Down in Shocking Murder

In a chilling and tragic turn of events, Mexican music sensation Ernesto Barajas was brutally assassinated in broad daylight yesterday evening, sending shockwaves throughout the entertainment industry. The 38-year-old lead singer of Enigma Norteño, one of Mexico's most popular narcocorrido bands, was shot dead by two masked men on a motorcycle in Zapopan, Jalisco.

According to eyewitnesses, Barajas and another man were killed instantly when the attackers burst into the parking lot, unleashing a hail of bullets. A female bystander suffered serious injuries, including a gunshot wound to her leg. The scene was described as "chaotic" with police scrambling to respond to the emergency.

But this heinous crime comes as no surprise to those familiar with Barajas' tumultuous career. The singer had been receiving death threats from Mexican organized crime groups in 2023, and an unofficial investigation has revealed that the murder may be linked to a "settling of scores." The Jalisco State Prosecutor's Office has launched a full-scale investigation into the killing.

Enigma Norteño's rise to fame was built on their provocative narcocorridos performances, which have been criticized for glorifying Mexico's notorious cartels and their leaders. The band's most popular tracks include "Los Chapitos," a tribute to Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán's sons, as well as "El Mayito Gordo" and "Quemándose un Gallito." Their songs have been commissioned by high-ranking cartel members, sparking allegations that they are nothing more than apologists for organized crime.

In an explosive interview with The Independent Espanol in 2022, Barajas confessed to receiving a whopping $25,000 per song from Mexican drug lords. He claimed that the lucrative deals came with one condition: never reveal the true identity of his patrons. "It can be dangerous to release a corrido without authorization," he warned, hinting at the immense pressure exerted by these powerful figures.

Barajas is seen in his final Instagram post on August 14 - five days before his death

However, Barajas' management company, Tanto Líder, has maintained that their songs are meant to portray the harsh realities of Mexican society, rather than celebrate violence and crime. But detractors argue that the band's lyrics perpetuate a culture of impunity, emboldening cartel members and their associates.

In recent years, Enigma Norteño had faced intense scrutiny from authorities, who have banned narcocorridos performances in several states due to concerns over their potential contribution to Mexico's escalating violence. Barajas himself was forced to cancel a show in Rosarito, Baja California, after receiving an alleged threat from CJNG (Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación) on a narcomanta.

Just days before his murder, Barajas posted a cryptic teaser for the band's new song, "Hello Kitty," featuring singer and producer Edgardo Nuñez. It remains to be seen whether this was more than just a coincidence.

His management company Tanto Líder shared an emotional tribute to the star along with an image of him with angel wings

As news of Barajas' tragic demise spread like wildfire on social media, tributes began pouring in from fans, fellow musicians, and even Tanto Líder itself. The management company shared an emotional statement, saying: "Rest in peace, Ernesto Barajas. Your Tanto Líder family will always be proud of you and remember you as the great artist and human being you were."

The scholarlynote.com has reached out to representatives for Barajas and the Jalisco State Prosecutor's Office for comment but has yet to receive a response.

As Mexico grapples with its entrenched gang violence, this shocking murder serves as a stark reminder that even those who entertain and perform can become targets in this deadly game.
