Dax Shepard and Eric Dane: From AA Tensions to Unlikely Friendship

Dax Shepard (L) told a funny story about Eric Dane while interviewing his fellow Alcoholics Anonymous buddy Brad Pitt (M) on his seven-year-old Wondery podcast, Armchair Expert, on Monday

SCOOP ALERT!

Hollywood's hottest stars, Eric Dane and Dax Shepard, are dishing out juicy secrets on their wild ride of sobriety, rivalry, and redemption!

In a recent episode of Dax's hit podcast, Armchair Expert, the 50-year-old Idiocracy alum opened up about his explosive confrontation with fellow AA member, Eric Dane, back in 2014. It all went down at a luxurious Bel-Air mansion owned by none other than Tom!

The 50-year-old Idiocracy alum - who got sober again in 2020 - recalled: 'Eric Dane, who I now f***ing love, I have such a sweetness for him now. But when we first were around each other, it was not good'

According to Dax, Eric suddenly threatened a dude who was keeping time for the speakers during an AA meeting. "He goes, 'If you hit that timer again, I'm gonna f*ing throw you in that candle!'" Dax recalled.

This sparked a heated confrontation between the two, with Dax threatening to beat Eric up in Tom's driveway! But fast-forward one year later, and Eric was back on Dax's podcast, sharing his side of the story. And let's just say it got even juicier!

"I may not have been sober at the time," Eric admitted. "And this poor kid buzzes the buzzer one more time, and I said, 'If you buzz that buzzer one more time dude, I'm going to stick it up your a**.'" Whoa, talk about a red-hot temper!

It all went down between the pair during an AA meeting at a 'very nice house' owned by a man called 'Tom' in Bel-Air back in 2014 when the 52-year-old Grey's Anatomy alum (pictured Monday) suddenly 'threatened a dude' who was keeping time for the speakers

But in all seriousness, these two actors-turned-AA-buddies have come a long way since their explosive encounter. In fact, they've become so close that Dax even credits Eric with helping him grow as a person.

"I went from somehow seeing you as an adversary who was going to attack me and I needed to fight to someone I deeply rooted for and wanted to win," Dax shared. Aw, how sweet is that?

And if you thought their AA meeting drama was the most exciting thing they've been up to lately, think again! Eric has recently opened up about his devastating diagnosis with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a degenerative neurological disorder that affects motor neurons.

Dax stated: 'In the middle of the meeting, he goes,

Despite being told he's lost the function of his dominant right arm and is at risk of losing his left hand too, Eric remains hopeful. He's been taking medication to slow down the symptoms and participating in a research study to find a cure.

"I will fly to Germany and eat the head off a rattlesnake if [doctors] told me that would help," he vowed. "I'll assume the risk." That's one determined guy!

And speaking of Eric's latest projects, you can catch him in the new crime drama Countdown, premiering June 25 on Amazon Prime Video. He's also reprising his role as Cal Jacobs in the third season of HBO's hit show Euphoria, alongside Zendaya and a star-studded cast.

Shepard continued: 'He stands up to go outside, and I'm gonna beat the f*** out of him in Tom's driveway at an AA meeting where we're coming for healing and understanding'

Meanwhile, Dax and his wife Kristen Bell are gearing up for their next big project together. The couple will produce and star in the second season of Erin Foster's critically-acclaimed rabbi rom-com, premiering October 23 on Netflix.

So there you have it, folks! A juicy serving of celebrity gossip, sobriety stories, and inspiration to boot. Stay tuned for more updates from the world of The Scholarly Note!

One year earlier, Eric (M) relayed his version of the heated confrontation while appearing on the Hello Bello co-founder's podcast, admitting he 'probably shouldn't have' brought the friend who would 'not stop droning on' during his share at that infamous meeting

Dane recalled: 'I was not in the best space. Let's just say that. I may not even have been sober at the time. And this poor kid buzzes the buzzer one more time and I said,

At that, Dax corrected Eric that he actually threatened to throw the guy into a 'very expensive multi-wick candle burning in the middle' of the room

The former rivals - who previously argued over a Ducati delivery - returned to the same meeting the next week with no issue, and Dane started enjoying Shepard's shares and came to really 'love' him

Last week, the SAG Award winner revealed he's lost the function of his dominant right arm in the year since he was diagnosed with the incurable degenerative neurological disorder, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (pictured last Wednesday)

Eric told GMA: '[My left arm] is going. I feel like maybe a couple, a few more months and I won't have my left hand either. Sobering. I'm worried about my legs'

Dane continued: 'I'm very hopeful, yeah, I don't think this is the end of my story. I'm pretty resilient. I just don't feel, like in my heart, [that] this is the end of me'
