Darcy's Dad Duty Delays Downton: Netflix Revamps 'Pride And Prejudice' Schedule

Producers have been forced to employ Lowden lookalikes as they film the final scenes featuring The Crown actress Emma Corrin

SECRETS FROM THE SET: NEW PARENT Mr Darcy's Baby Takes Center Stage, Leaving Producers Scrambling for a Stand-in!

In a shocking turn of events, the filming schedule for Netflix's upcoming Pride and Prejudice adaptation has been thrown into chaos with the arrival of a new family member. Sources close to the set reveal that Jack Lowden, who plays the dashing Mr Darcy in the highly-anticipated series, has become a father! The talented Scottish actor, 35, is married to four-time Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan, and the couple's first child has left producers scrambling for a last-minute solution.

With Lowden temporarily MIA from the set, his stand-ins have been hard at work trying to keep up with the demands of filming. "It's like they say: 'The show must go on'!" a source spills to The Scholarly Note. "But let's be real, it's not easy finding someone who looks and acts just like Mr Darcy! The producers are having to get creative, but we're all thrilled for Jack and his growing family."

Jack Lowden might be playing the most eligible bachelor in literature but in reality he is married to four-time Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan

Lowden and Ronan, 31, tied the knot in a private ceremony in Edinburgh last July, and she was spotted out and about with a noticeable baby bump just two weeks ago. Despite their busy schedules, the couple seems committed to making time for their new arrival.

But that's not all – it appears that another Austen adaptation, Sense and Sensibility, is also experiencing some behind-the-scenes drama. Stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Fiona Shaw were spotted filming scenes in Whitehall last week, but despite the warm September temperatures, they were clad in full winter regalia. "It was a bit chilly on set," Edgar-Jones, 27, joked to our insider. "But we're all about getting into character, even if it means freezing our bums off!"

Edgar-Jones, who reprises her role as the reserved Elinor Dashwood in Netflix's adaptation, will undoubtedly bring a quiet strength and moral compass to the role. Shaw, 67, who plays the overbearing but kind Mrs Jennings, is no stranger to Austen adaptations – she also stars as Lady Catherine de Bourgh in the upcoming Pride and Prejudice series.

Saoirse Ronan has just given birth to their first child, keeping him away from the set of the new star-studded six-part series

Sense and Sensibility is one of two major Austen remakes planned by Netflix this year, with The Crown actress Emma Corrin starring as Elizabeth Bennet in the other adaptation. Meanwhile, a new Wuthering Heights film, starring Margot Robbie as Catherine and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, is also in production for Warner Bros.

It's clear that 2023 will be the year of period dramas – but which adaptation will reign supreme? Stay tuned to find out!
