Chris Noth Takes Sides in Sarah Jessica Parker vs. Kim Cattrall Drama
SCANDALOUS! Chris Noth Takes Sides in Sex and the City Feud, Wishes Kim Cattrall a Happy Birthday Amid Backlash
It's been three years since the bombshell allegations against Chris Noth rocked the entertainment industry, but it seems he's still got some tricks up his sleeve. The former Sex and the City heartthrob, who faced a slew of sexual assault claims in 2021, has made headlines once again - this time for taking sides in the long-running feud between Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker.
On Thursday, Noth celebrated Kim's 69th birthday on her Instagram post, making him the only one from the Sex and the City universe to wish the actress a happy birthday. But what's even more interesting is that Kim was celebrating not just her special day, but also the August 1st cancellation of the ill-fated continuation of Michael Patrick King's show.
The Liverpool-born, Canadian New Yorker had every reason to celebrate - after all, she'd been paid an eye-popping $1 million for a 70-second cameo in the second season finale of And Just Like That (AJLT), which was negotiated directly by HBO Max chairman-CEO Casey Bloys. But what's more surprising is that her presence was sorely missed in the show, considering Samantha Jones was the funniest, sexiest, and least judgmental of Carrie Bradshaw's friends - even after her infamous extramarital affair with Mr. Big (played by Noth).
Who could forget the touching scene when Jones spoonfed soup to the despondent author on her Mexican honeymoon (sans her flaky groom) in the 2008 flick Sex and the City: The Movie? But behind the scenes, the bad blood between Cattrall and Parker has been brewing for years. In 2018, Kim accused Sarah of expressing faux concern over the death of her brother Chris.
Five months earlier, the Central Intelligence actress revealed they had 'never been friends' but rather 'colleagues.' "This is really where I take to task the people from Sex and the City and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker," Kim lamented on Piers Morgan's Life Stories on ITV. "I think she could have been nicer. I don't know what her issue is."
In 2022, the 60-year-old former child star admitted Cattrall's public comments were 'very painful' because it didn't reflect 'our experience,' including Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis. "I've spent a lot of years working really hard to always be decent to everybody on the set, to take care of people, to be responsible to and for people," Sarah told THR's Awards Chatter podcast.
"I don't even know if I'm ready to talk about it," she continued. "But I don't think... I wasn't reacting [to the scandal] as a producer. I should have worked on this because I'm just... it's just..."
Noth, who portrayed Carrie's late husband - financier John James Preston/Mr. Big - in all six seasons of HBO's Sex and the City, two forgettable film spin-offs, and the HBO Max revival, denied sexually assaulting the two women who came forward to THR. Instead, he claimed they were 'consensual encounters.'
The exposé led to two more women coming forward with similar claims about Noth, who was promptly dropped by A3 Artists Agency and his character was killed off CBS' The Equalizer. "And there just isn't anyone else who's ever talked about me this way," the Law & Order alum said.
In a shocking revelation, Parker confessed she had not spoken to Chris since his sexual assault allegations. "We are deeply saddened to hear the allegations against Chris Noth," SJP, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis said in a statement in 2021. "We support the women who have come forward and shared their painful experiences. We know it must be a very difficult thing to do and we commend them for it."
The scandal has had far-reaching consequences for Noth's career - but it seems he's still managed to land some high-profile gigs. He's set to star in Craig Singer's thriller comedy The Block, due out this fall, alongside Jackie Earle Haley and Elias Koteas. But will his newfound friendship with Kim Cattrall be enough to salvage his reputation? Only time will tell.
As the drama unfolds, one thing is certain - Chris Noth has well and truly taken sides in the Sex and the City feud, and it's clear that he's willing to do whatever it takes to stay relevant in Hollywood. But at what cost to his integrity and his relationships with his former co-stars?
