Carrie's Comeback? Fans Divided as Sarah Jessica Parker's Return Teased

Sarah Jessica Parker could reprise her iconic role as Carrie Bradshaw yet again after the end of Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That...

SATC REBOOT SHOCKER: Carrie Bradshaw's Return Teased, But Will It Revive a Fading Franchise?

The world of Sex and the City has been a hot mess for years, but it seems that even the most devoted fans are still holding onto hope that the show will somehow magically recover from its disastrous reboot. And Just Like That... (AJLT), which debuted in 2021, saw Sarah Jessica Parker reprise her iconic role as Carrie Bradshaw, along with Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis returning as Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York. However, despite its loyal fanbase, the show's attempt to modernize the classic characters and storylines has been met with widespread criticism.

The two-part finale of AJLT left fans stunned, with Carrie embracing her newfound independence and declaring that she was "done" with Mr. Big (Chris Noth), who had tragically died at the beginning of the series. The finale's reception was lukewarm, to say the least, but it seems that showrunner Michael Patrick King has no intention of giving up on the franchise just yet.

The show - which saw Parker , Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis reprise their SATC roles as Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York - has been branded ' woke ', 'awful' and 'cringeworthy' since its debut in 2021 - ending earlier this month

In a recent interview, executive producer Elisa Zuritsky hinted that new episodes featuring Carrie and her friends could be in the works. "She's alive," Zuritsky coyly said when asked about the possibility of a Carrie return. "So it could happen." When pressed further for details, Zuritsky remained tight-lipped, but revealed that she keeps notes on potential future storylines for Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte.

The news has sent shockwaves through the SATC fan community, with some fans ecstatic at the prospect of more AJLT episodes, while others are adamant that it's time to let the show die. "For the love of God! LET. IT. DIE," one fan wrote on social media. Others were more blunt, stating that they'd lost interest in the series after just a few episodes.

The backlash against AJLT has been intense, with many fans feeling that the show had strayed too far from its original roots and characters. The introduction of new side characters like Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez) and Dr. Nya Wallace (Karen Pittman) was met with skepticism by some viewers, who felt that they were unnecessary additions to the story.

Samantha Jones icon Kim Cattrall did not reprise her role due to bad blood with her castmates - she played the role in the series from 1998-2004 and in the two films

Ramirez's character, in particular, has been a lightning rod for controversy. Last year, it was revealed that Ramirez had been dropped from AJLT due to their vocal support of Palestine and criticism of Israel's actions in Gaza. The actor implied on social media that they would not be returning to the show, but a source close to the production claimed that Ramirez's character had simply become "annoying" and held no value for the writers.

Meanwhile, Kim Cattrall, who played the iconic Samantha Jones, has been largely absent from AJLT. While she did appear in a secret cameo in season 2 without interacting with any of her former castmates, it seems that she has no interest in revisiting her character or the franchise as a whole.

As for Chris Noth's Mr. Big, his on-screen death sent shockwaves through the SATC community, but rumors have been circulating that his character might still be back from the dead. However, given the show's troubled history and inconsistent storytelling, it's hard to say what the future holds for AJLT or its beloved characters.

Zuritsky told TV Line when asked about a possible Carrie return: 'She’s alive so it could happen'

One thing is certain, though: if Carrie Bradshaw does return, it will be a major coup for the show. But with its tarnished reputation and dwindling viewership, can AJLT ever truly revive its former glory? Only time (and Zuritsky's notes) will tell.

AJLT saw Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) cheat on husband Steve with non-binary comic Che (Sara Ramirez) - before starting to exclusively date women - even though in SATC Miranda had said she was 'definitely not gay'

And Just Like That... was first announced in January 2021. The series kicked off in explosive style with Big (Chris Noth) dying of a heart attack in the first episode

Cattrall was credited for getting the show a third season thanks to her shock cameo as Samantha in the second season finale
