Cardi B’s Subway Stunt: Genius Marketing or Desperation?

Cardi B's fans are divided over her latest publicity stunt to promote her upcoming album Am I The Drama in which the Grammy winner portrays a starving artist trying to sell her CD on the subway

Cardi B's Desperate Plea for Attention: Is She Really Struggling or Just Playing the Role?

In a bizarre publicity stunt that has left fans scratching their heads, Cardi B took to the streets (or rather, the subway) to promote her upcoming album, Am I The Drama. The 32-year-old rapper donned a makeshift homeless look, complete with a hoodie and sneakers, and began hawking her CD to unsuspecting commuters.

As she made her way through the nearly empty car, Cardi B (who recently won a $24 million civil assault trial) exclaimed, "Good evening, everybody! I'm trying to sell these CDs. I'm trying to change my life around." She claimed to have been a professional ballerina in her former life (a claim that has left many questioning the authenticity of her backstory), and assured potential customers that purchasing her album would be a worthy investment.

As the doors open to the car, the rapper walked in to frame wearing a white pair of joggers and a black hoodie pulled over her long, red hair.

"I used to be a professional ballerina," she said, her voice dripping with desperation. "Well, uh, I'm trying to make a better example for my kids." Her gaze landed on an imaginary customer, and she began to plead her case. "If you could please buy my new album, Am I The Drama, $9.99... We've got the vinyl, too, for about 20, 30 dollars. You know what I'm saying? Please support a mother of three."

As one would-be customer handed over their cash, Cardi B eagerly tucked it into her hoodie and thanked them profusely. But things took a turn for the absurd when a subway rat scurried onto the scene, prompting the rapper to exclaim, "Oh my God!" (multiple times) before muttering, "I can't, I can't, I can't." The clip ended with Cardi B dramatically exiting the car, saying, "Get me out of here."

The stunt has left fans divided. Some have condemned it as desperate and embarrassing, while others see it as a clever marketing ploy that's working its magic.

'Good evening everybody, I'm trying to sell these CDs, I'm trying to change my life around,' she began

"This is so embarrassing... she looks homeless," wrote one Pop Base X account commenter. "Cardi B's subway stunt for 'AM I THE DRAMA?' is just another desperate cry for attention. Real artists don't need to stoop this low," criticized another. "Desperation at its finest," agreed a third.

However, many of Cardi B's fans are rallying around the rapper, praising her innovative marketing strategy and arguing that it's working too well for haters to ignore.

"Idc what anyone says, the marketing for this era has literally been GENIUS!" wrote one fan. "She's been going outside & not staying inside letting her fans promote her era using Bing AI! All the haters in the comments prove that the rollout strategy that y'all are all hating on, IS WORKING."

'I used to be a professional ballerina, well, uh, I'm trying to make a better example for my kids,' she said as she walked through the scarcely populated car

But what's really behind Cardi B's latest publicity stunt? Is she genuinely struggling to make ends meet, or is this just another clever attempt at self-promotion?

Recent rumors have swirled about the rapper's financial woes following her high-profile divorce from ex-husband Offset. The Bad and Boujee rapper, 33, is said to be facing significant money problems, including allegations of millions of dollars in unpaid taxes.

In a cryptic Instagram post accompanying the subway skit, Cardi B wrote, "7 more days until I find out if I’m going to lose my home." While she has denied struggling financially, many are interpreting this as a thinly veiled attempt to capitalize on her perceived financial struggles.

'If you could please buy my new album, Am I The Drama, $9.99,' she said approaching a potential customer

The Bodak Yellow singer's debut album, Invasion of Privacy (2018), was a massive commercial success, but it remains to be seen whether Am I The Drama will follow suit. One thing is certain: Cardi B has managed to stay in the headlines once again, and fans are eagerly awaiting the release of her new album.

Will Cardi B's latest stunt pay off, or will it backfire spectacularly? Only time (and sales figures) will tell.

'We've got the vinyl,' she said, turning to another, for about 20, 30 dollars, you know what I'm saying, please support a mother of three.'

A subway rat adding an unexpected bit of drama as the camera operator caught it running through the station. 'Oh my God!' Cardi repeated several times, adding, 'I can't, I can't, I can't,' the calmly saying 'Get me outta here'
