Brandy & Monica Unveil the Inspiration Behind 'The Boy Is Mine'!
EXCLUSIVE SCOOP!
Get ready for a blast from the past, folks! Legendary R&B divas Brandy and Monica are reuniting for their first-ever joint tour, 25 years after releasing their iconic hit single "The Boy Is Mine". The dynamic duo made headlines this week by announcing their highly anticipated co-headlining tour, which is set to kick off on October 16 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
But the real tea is that the girls spilled some major secrets about the making of their Grammy-winning masterpiece. During a joint appearance on Wednesday's episode of "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon", Brandy and Monica revealed that the inspiration behind the song came from none other than the infamous Jerry Springer Show!
Brandy, 46, confessed that she was obsessed with the show and would often watch it with her friends. One day, while flipping through channels, she stumbled upon an episode featuring a segment called "The Boy Is Mine". Brandy was hooked! She knew she had to get Monica on board to create the ultimate duet.
"I was always a fan of hers and I wanted to work with her," Brandy gushed about her co-star. "So, I called her up and asked her to be a part of the song, and she said yes!"
Monica, 44, chimed in, revealing that she thought people would automatically assume they were fighting over a man because of the song's theme. "That was the point," Brandy agreed, winking at Jimmy Fallon.
But the real juicy bit is that the music video for "The Boy Is Mine" actually featured a snippet from The Jerry Springer Show! In the iconic clip, Brandy and Monica are seen fighting over the TV remote control, with Brandy watching Springer's show and Monica changing the channel. Classic!
The song went on to become an instant hit, spending 13 weeks at the top of the Billboard charts and winning the duo a Grammy Award. Fast forward to 2012, when they released their second duet, "It All Belongs to Me", only to be rumored to have been feuding for years afterwards.
However, it seems that Ariana Grande's remix of "The Boy Is Mine" in 2020 was the magic solution to bridge the gap between the two R&B icons. "When you properly communicate something, you can find not only the resolutions and solutions to problems, but sometimes you find that there weren't ever problems, just consistent miscommunications," Monica told ET.
And speaking of communication, the ladies will be performing alongside opening acts Kelly Rowland, Muni Long, and Jamal Roberts from American Idol. The 24-city arena tour will take them across the United States before wrapping up in Houston, Texas on December 7.
So, are you ready for some nostalgic R&B vibes? Get your tickets ready because Brandy and Monica are coming to a city near you! TheScholarlyNote.com has got you covered with all the latest updates on this iconic tour. Stay tuned!
