Brad Pitt's Bitter Divorce from Angelina Jolie Still Haunts Him - But He's Moving On... Sort Of

It's been a long and grueling road to recovery for Brad Pitt, the Hollywood A-lister who's still reeling from his acrimonious divorce from Angelina Jolie. The Oscar winner is finally opening up about the tumultuous end of their six-year marriage, which officially came to a close in December 2024 - but the fallout continues to simmer beneath the surface.

Pitt, now 61, and Jolie, 50, were once the golden couple of Hollywood, with their whirlwind romance on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith back in 2005. They tied the knot in 2014, but the fairytale came crashing down just three years later when Jolie filed for divorce in 2016 - citing "irreconcilable differences" and, more ominously, allegations of Pitt's alleged abuse towards her and their six children.

Pitt, 61, and Jolie, 50, who share Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, married in 2014 after falling for each other on the set of Mrs. & Mrs. Smith; (seen in 2012)

Fast forward to today, and it's clear that the wounds from that brutal breakup are still very much raw. In a candid interview with ET at the F1 premiere in Mexico City on Monday night, Pitt, looking every inch the silver fox in his dashing suit and designer shades, reflected on the mistakes of his past.

"No matter what, you just learn from it and move on," he said, his voice laced with a hint of vulnerability. "It'll lead to the next success." When asked how he stays grounded in the midst of such turmoil, Pitt's response was telling: "When you get to my age, you realize how important it is to surround yourself with the people you love, the people that love you back... Friends, family, and that's it."

But the truth is, Pitt's personal life has been a hot mess since his split from Jolie. The mother of his six children - including 23-year-old Maddox, 21-year-old Pax, 20-year-old Zahara, 19-year-old Shiloh, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne - has seemingly cut ties with her ex-husband, dropping Pitt's last name in favor of Jolie's.

On Monday night, amid the turmoil, Pitt opened up in an emotional interview at the F1 premiere in Mexico City, after being asked how he stays grounded: 'No matter the mistake, you just learn from [it] and move on,' he told ET, 'It¿ll lead to the next success' (seen in 2007)

And things are only getting more complicated. According to a source close to the situation, Pitt is struggling to connect with two of his adopted sons, Pax and Maddox, who have both made it clear they're not interested in repairing their relationships with him.

"He has zero concern with what Pax does or doesn't do," the insider revealed. "Pax's actions reflect who he is... Brad honestly considers his relationship with Pax unfixable."

As for the other four kids, Pitt still holds out hope that they'll one day come around - but it's clear that Jolie has moved on and is focusing on her own family.

Nine years on from Angelina and Brad's split, Pitt now appears ready to cut ties with at least two of his children while desperately holding out hope for reconcile with the other four; (Pictured: Brad and Angelina with Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne in 2011).

A source close to Jolie hit back at her ex-husband, saying: "Brad continues to play the victim. His fractured relationship with his children is a direct result of how he has treated them... He should stop blaming others. If he wants to rebuild a relationship with the kids, he should acknowledge his own actions and make amends."

In the meantime, Pitt's trying to move on - but it's not easy. Just last month, 21-year-old Pax was spotted stumbling out of the Chateau Marmont, propped up by several friends - a development that left Pitt feeling particularly low.

"He has zero concern with what Pax does or doesn't do," said the insider. "Pax and Maddox have made it abundantly clear how they feel, and Brad has nothing to say about either of them."

The source said Brad doesn't appear to be planning any outreach to either of his adopted sons: 'Pax and Maddox have made it abundantly clear how they feel, and Brad has nothing to say about either of them.'; seen with her kids in 2021  in London

And then there's Shiloh, who legally changed her last name to Jolie last year on her 18th birthday - a move that's left Pitt feeling particularly hurt.

As for his personal life, Pitt's been linked to jewelry designer Ines de Ramon since 2022 - but their relationship has been decidedly low-key. In a new interview with GQ for the magazine's 2025 Summer Issue, Pitt addressed the constant scrutiny over his private life, noting: "My personal life is always in the news... It's been in the news for 30 years, bro. Or some version of my personal life, let's put it that way."

But despite the drama and chaos surrounding him, Pitt remains defiant - insisting that he's moving on from the past and focusing on his future.

"It's just something coming to fruition," he said when asked whether he felt any relief after their divorce was officially finalized. "Legally."

For now, it seems like Brad Pitt is stuck in a perpetual state of limbo - torn between his desire for closure and his need to move forward. Only time will tell if he'll ever find peace again.
