Billy Joel's Ex Speaks Out: 'Not a Homewrecker' Reveals New Insights
SHOCKING EXCLUSIVE: Billy Joel's Ex-Wife Elizabeth Weber Spills the Tea on Their Scandalous Affair
In a jaw-dropping interview with Us Weekly, Elizabeth Weber, the 76-year-old ex-wife of legendary singer-songwriter Billy Joel, has finally broken her silence on their infamous affair. The drama-filled relationship not only ended in a messy divorce but also left a trail of heartbreak and destruction in its wake.
As we all know, Billy's life was forever changed when he began an illicit romance with his best friend's wife, Elizabeth, back in the 1970s. At the time, she was married to Jon Small, who just so happened to be a bandmate and close friend of Billy's. The tryst led to the disbandment of their rock duo, Attila, and ultimately ended in a divorce that would leave both parties heartbroken.
But here's where it gets juicy: Elizabeth has now spoken out about the "homewrecker" label that was unfairly attached to her name all those years ago. In an interview with Us Weekly, she revealed that she never thought of Billy as the homewrecker because there simply wasn't much of a home to wreck.
"We didn't have a deep connection, Jon and I," Elizabeth explained. "I mean, we were in a relationship for a while, but it was more like two people just coexisting. And let's be real, my life began again when my son Sean was born. He lit up every room he walked into!"
Elizabeth shares son Sean with ex-husband Jon, and it seems that her time as Billy's manager soon after their marriage only added fuel to the fire of their passion for each other.
"We were like two people who had found our own little world," Elizabeth said, "and we didn't need anyone else. We were rock 'n' roll, you know?"
But what about Jon? How did he feel when he discovered that his best friend and bandmate was carrying on an affair with his wife?
"Well, I think Jon felt a mix of emotions," Elizabeth revealed. "He was upset, but at the same time, he understood why Billy was drawn to me. They were both creative people who understood each other's passion and drive."
In recent years, both Elizabeth and Billy have reflected on their tumultuous past in various interviews and documentaries. But it wasn't until they appeared together on HBO's documentary Billy Joel: And So It Goes that the full extent of their complicated history was laid bare.
For those who may not know, Billy has been open about his struggles with mental health and substance abuse over the years. In fact, he even attempted suicide twice – once by taking a massive dose of sleeping pills and another time by drinking a bottle of Lemon Pledge furniture polish!
"It's hard to put into words how I felt during that time," Billy said in an interview with Howard Stern on his Sirius XM show. "I just wanted it all to end, you know? But thankfully, my sister Judy was there for me, and she saved my life."
Nowadays, both Elizabeth and Billy have moved on from their complicated past. While they're still in contact with each other, they no longer share the same level of closeness that they once did.
"Of course, we've kept in touch over the years," Elizabeth said, "but I think we've both found our own paths to happiness now."
As for Billy's health, fans will be happy to know that he's made a full recovery from his recent diagnosis with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). He recently updated his friends on his Sirius XM show, saying, "Yeah, you can tell people, I'm not dying!"
