Bill Maher Slams 'The View' Panel: Are They an Embarrassment for Women?

Bill Maher questioned if the View's hosts were really qualified to represent the fairer sex during a conversation with Drew Barrymore on his podcast Monday, days after Donald Trump called for its cancellation

The View's Toxic Stew: Bill Maher Throws Shade, Rosie O'Donnell Weighs In

It's no secret that The View has been a hotbed of controversy and drama, but recent comments from comedian Bill Maher have set off a firestorm, with some questioning whether the show's liberal ladies are doing more harm than good. And if you thought it was just about politics, think again - it's also about ratings, bias, and even Trumpism.

Maher made his biting remarks during an appearance on Drew Barrymore's Club Random podcast, where he dished about his own experience on The View. "I did [the show] like a year ago," he said with a chuckle, "and I liked everyone. But I don't know if they're really, at this moment, the best advertisement for women." Ouch! He also took aim at the show's format, saying it's "a lot" and implying that the hosts might not be the most qualified to represent their gender.

'The View' - hosted by Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro (not pictured), Sara Haines, and Alyssa Farah Griffin - has recently come under fire for booking mostly liberal guests, and Maher made clear he isn't a fan of their slanted approach to politics

But Maher isn't alone in his criticism - or rather, he's just part of a growing chorus. A recent study by the Media Research Center found that The View has welcomed an astonishing 102 liberal-leaning guests this year... and zero conservatives. Zero! That's right, folks - it seems like the show is more interested in preaching to the choir than engaging with opposing viewpoints.

The White House itself got in on the act, calling for the show's cancellation after co-host Joy Behar made some, ahem, "interesting" comments about President Trump. According to a spokesperson, Behar's remark that the president was "jealous" of his predecessor Barack Obama (over the Russian "hoax") was just too much. "It's no surprise that 'The View's' ratings hit an all-time low last year," they said with a wink. "Maybe it's time for them to take a long, hard look at their own biases."

But don't worry - The View's hosts aren't taking this lying down. On Wednesday, former panelist (and longtime Trump critic) Rosie O'Donnell chimed in on TikTok, claiming that ABC is secretly reviewing the show's liberal bias... and that it won't be long before they're off the air for good.

During his most recent appearance on the program in May 2024, Maher found himself grilled over his support for Israel by the all-female panel

"This isn't about bias - this is about obedience," she wrote, her signature fire spilling out onto the page. "Because it's not enough to run the country into the ground [.] You have to control what people see[,] what they hear[,] what they think." Sounds like a recipe for disaster (or at least a major ratings slump) if you ask us!

And while all this drama is unfolding, Maher has been keeping busy, taking on Whoopi Goldberg over her ill-fated comment comparing life as a black American to living in Iran. Yikes! During his appearance on the show back in May, he was grilled by Sunny Hostin over his support for Israel amid its war in Gaza.

So what's really going on behind closed doors? A source close to the show pushed back against claims that they don't welcome conservative talking points, saying there's "wide outreach across the aisle." But let's be real - when you've got a show with this many liberal stars, it's hard not to feel like you're stuck in a one-way conversation.

'You know, I love Whoopi and Joy. Those are the two I really know,' Maher told Barrymore in a touchy feely sitdown

The latest bombshell? ABC News' parent company Disney reportedly asked the hosts to tone down their rhetoric... and they flat-out refused. As one source put it, "They were like, 'No way - we're just going to keep doing our thing.'" Well, isn't that just peachy?

We reached out to ABC News for comment, but so far, no word back from the powers that be.

The View may think they're a force to be reckoned with, but it's starting to look like their liberal ladies might be the ones who need to take a step back - or at least dial back the rhetoric. As Maher himself put it, "I love Whoopi and Joy... but that show's a lot." And we can't help but wonder what's really going on behind those studio doors...
