Aubrey Anderson-Emmons: From Modern Family Star to Indie Music Sensation!
Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, Former Modern Family Child Star, Ditches Acting Career for Music with Sizzling Debut EP
It's been five years since the beloved sitcom Modern Family went off the air, and its youngest star, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, has been biding her time. But now, at just 18 years old, she's making a shocking move: trading in her acting skills for music! The former Lily, adoptive daughter of Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), has announced that she'll be releasing an EP under the stage name Frances Anderson.
In a recent interview with TooFab, Aubrey spilled the beans on her decision to ditch the spotlight for the music industry. "Frances is my middle name," she explained, "and it was named after a family friend. I feel like my music gives off nostalgic vibes or I'm a very nostalgic person overall, so having a name after an old family friend of my parents, I really liked that." When asked if Frances Anderson is an alter ego, Aubrey clarified, "I wouldn't say that Francis Anderson is like a really alter ego... She feels a little bit different. She feels a little bit younger than me, considering all this music that I've written about was stuff from my childhood, things from high school."
The young star's debut EP, titled Drown, drops this Friday, August 8, and promises to be a nostalgic trip back to the '90s and early 2000s with its low-fi indie rock vibes. Think Clairo, beabadoobee, and Phoebe Bridgers - it's going to be a wild ride! And don't even get us started on the album art: a haunting image of Aubrey gazing out the window, lost in thought.
But this isn't just a one-off venture; Aubrey has been hard at work behind the scenes. In May, she released her debut single "Telephones and Traffic," which hinted at the soulful, heartfelt soundscapes that will be featured on Drown. And as for what inspired her to make the switch from acting to music? It seems like it was a calling she couldn't ignore. As she told TooFab, "Music is something I've always loved... I've been writing songs since I was 15, and it's just something that feels very natural to me."
But Aubrey's not just making headlines for her new music; the young actress has also been making waves with her recent coming-out revelation. In June, she dropped a TikTok bombshell: "People keep joking so much abt me being gay when I literally am (I'm bi)." And in true Modern Family style, she even used a clip from an episode of the show to make the announcement, referencing a scene where Lily declares, "No I'm not, I'm gay! I'm gay!" Aubrey captioned her video with a cheeky "hehe happy pride month and to all a good night," adding hashtags #modernfamily #lily #pridemonth #pride #fyp #bi.
Of course, this isn't the first time Aubrey has spoken out about her life in the spotlight. Back in May, she shared a TikTok video that shed light on what it's really like to grow up as a child star. "People ask things like, 'How did you know you wanted to do that when you were four? How do you know you love something when you're so young?' And the truth is, you don't," she admitted. Aubrey went on to explain how she wasn't forced into acting and didn't face any abuse on set - but instead faced harsh criticism for her acting choices from a very young age.
Despite all this, Aubrey seems determined to prove herself as more than just Lily from Modern Family. And with her debut EP Drown just around the corner, we can't wait to see what's next for this talented young star!
