The Vista Theatre in Los Angeles was set ablaze with passion and terror on Wednesday, as married couple and co-stars Alison Brie, 42, and Dave Franco, 40, made a stunning joint appearance at the premiere of their new horror film Together. Together is a supernatural body horror film written and directed by Michael Shanks in his directorial debut. In an exclusive interview with thescholarlynote.com, Brie dished about the film's intense intimacy: "Both of us have done intimate scenes with other actors before, but this film required a whole new level of closeness from its two leads. I think we pretty much finished every day of shooting and said to each other, 'I don't know how you could make this movie without a real-life couple because of some of the situations we found ourselves in.'"
Franco added: "The movie explores codependency, which is something that's not necessarily good or bad; there are levels to it. Because we're married and work together constantly, I think we definitely could be defined as codependent. But we try to maintain a healthy relationship."
The couple's on-screen chemistry is undeniable, but their real-life romance has been just as hot. They first met at a New Orleans Mardi Gras party in 2011 and started dating officially the following year. After a whirlwind engagement in August 2015, they tied the knot in March 2017. Brie famously declared she didn't want to have children, and Franco has echoed that sentiment.
The power couple is no stranger to collaboration, having co-wrote their first film together, Somebody I Used to Know, which premiered on Prime Video earlier this year. The movie follows Ally (Brie), a woman who returns to her hometown and reconnects with her ex (Jay Ellis). Franco directed the film from a script he co-wrote with Brie.
This isn't the first time Franco has picked up the pen; he also wrote his directorial debut, 2020's The Rental, alongside Joe Swanberg and Mike Demski. Brie, meanwhile, has co-written and starred in two films for director Jeff Baena: 2020's Horse Girl and 2022's Spin Me Round.
