Actor Dennis Quaid Relieved: Teen Daughter Safe Amid Texas Flood Tragedy
Texas Tragedy: Dennis Quaid Speaks Out on Daughter's Close Call and Friend's Heartbreaking Loss
In a shocking turn of events, Hollywood heartthrob Dennis Quaid has shared an update on his 17-year-old daughter Zoe, who narrowly escaped the devastating floods that ravaged Camp Mystic in Texas. The beloved actor, 71, appeared on the Thursday broadcast of Hannity, where he revealed that Zoe was working as a counselor at a nearby camp when the tragic incident occurred.
Dennis's eyes welled up with emotion as he described the harrowing experience, "I heard about [the floods] as I was going to bed that night, and I tried to call her because I knew she was up there. But I wasn't able to talk to her 'til the next day... I didn't really get a lot of sleep that night." It's no wonder he was on edge - his daughter's safety was hanging in the balance.
As it turns out, Zoe's camp was located just a few miles away from Camp Mystic, which bore the brunt of the flash floods. Miraculously, her camp was spared, but Dennis couldn't help but worry about his child's well-being. "Hill Country in Texas is a magical place, especially for children going to camp there," he said wistfully. "It's a cherished memory you carry with you all your life."
But the Quaid family isn't alone in their tragedy. The actor also sent condolences to friend Clark Hunt, owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, whose nine-year-old daughter Janie lost her life in the floods. Dennis shared that he is still reeling from the news, "Janie, Hunt, who was lost that weekend... I can't imagine how devastating that would be. None of us can."
The floods, which occurred on July 4 early morning in Central Texas, were nothing short of catastrophic. The Guadalupe River rose a staggering 26 feet in just 45 minutes after six flash flood warnings were distributed in the area earlier in the day. The consequences were dire - 27 people lost their lives at Camp Mystic alone, including children and counselors.
In total, the Hill Country floods claimed the lives of 120 people, with 160 still missing. It's a tragedy that has left the community shaken to its core. As Dennis reflected on the disaster, his voice cracked with emotion, "My heart goes out to everybody [and] my heart goes out to the Hunt family... My wife Laura [Savoie] and I are sending our condolences to anyone affected by this devastating flood."
The actor's personal life is also making headlines. At 71, Dennis is still going strong, having recently tied the knot with his fourth wife, Laura Savoie - a whopping 39 years his junior! The pair has been married for several months now, and sources close to the couple say they're happier than ever.
As for Zoe's mom, Kimberly Buffington, she shares twins Zoe and Thomas, 17, with Dennis. But that's not all - she also gave birth to their two children while married to the actor in his third marriage from 2004 until 2012.
Dennis's love life has been a topic of interest for years, with four marriages under his belt. His first marriage was to P.J. Soles from 1978 until 1983, followed by Meg Ryan from 1991 until 2000. He then married Kimberly in 2004, before marrying Laura Savoie last year.
The Hollywood heartthrob's candid interview on Hannity has left fans and followers alike stunned - but one thing is clear: Dennis Quaid's family means the world to him. And as he navigates this difficult time with his loved ones by his side, we can't help but wish them all the best in the days ahead.
