40 Years On: Geldof, Ure & May Reunite for Live Aid Gala Extravaganza

The Live Aid 40th Anniversary Gala took place this weekend - with the likes of Midge Ure (pictured), Sir Bob Geldof and Sir Brian May in attendance

SCANDALOUS SIGHTINGS!

The 40th anniversary of Live Aid, the most iconic music event of all time, was celebrated in style this weekend - and what a drama-filled night it was!

As the likes of Midge Ure, Sir Bob Geldof, and Queen's very own Brian May gathered at The Shaftesbury Theatre for Just For One Day: The Live Aid Musical, it was clear that the old gang was back together again. And boy, did they bring the nostalgia!

Meanwhile, Irish icon Bob put on a performance for the crowd, wearing a black T-shirt and suede jacket

But let's get to the juiciest part - the outfits! Midge Ure, looking every inch the rockstar, stunned in a sharp blazer and crisp shirt combo, while Bob Geldof rocked up in a black T-shirt and suede jacket that screamed "I'm still got it!" Brian May, the eternal fashion icon, donned a dapper purple palm-printed blazer that had everyone green with envy.

But amidst all the glamour, there was a hint of sentimentality in the air. As Bob Geldof took to the stage for a rousing performance, he was met with tears and applause from the crowd - including an emotional Brian May, who gave him a hearty hug that said it all.

It's hard to believe it's been 40 years since Live Aid first burst onto the scene, bringing together some of the biggest names in music (David Bowie, Sir Paul McCartney, Status Quo, and Queen, to name just a few) for two epic concerts at Wembley Stadium and Philadelphia's John F. Kennedy Stadium.

Queen legend Brian May, 77, was seen hugging Bob, 73, as the pair appeared to get emotional

Fast-forward to the present, and it's clear that the magic of Live Aid still has us all under its spell. BBC Two and BBC iPlayer are set to broadcast a behind-the-scenes documentary on the iconic event, giving fans a chance to relive the excitement and drama that went into making one of the most unforgettable concerts in history.

And as Bob Geldof himself quipped to The Sun: "It doesn’t look that sort of different. I expect it to be mega and new and it just looks as crappy as before." Ah, Bob, you're as feisty as ever!

Meanwhile, Midge Ure revealed his own surprise at the musical's emotional impact: "I went in as a jaded rock star expecting cheese. But during the show this jaded rock star had a lump in his throat... One song jumped out in particular for me and I was never a big Bob Dylan fan. Blowing In The Wind, the interpretation that they’ve done on that was phenomenal."

Midge and Bob both looked smart as they turned up in shirts and blazers at The Shaftesbury Theatre (Bob pictured performing)

The archive footage is set to feature some of the most iconic moments from Live Aid's history, including appearances by Paula Yates, Boy George, Status Quo, and George Michael - not to mention interviews with music legends like Nile Rodgers, Lenny Henry, Phil Collins, Lionel Richie, Patti LaBelle, Roger Taylor, and Brian May himself.

But who else was in attendance at this star-studded affair? None other than Gavin and Stacey's Ruth Jones, Loose Women's Jane Moore, and comedian Katherine Ryan - just a few of the many celebrities who braved the sun-kissed streets to pay tribute to Live Aid's enduring legacy.
