27 Years and Counting: Jennifer Love Hewitt's Long Silence with Sarah Michelle Gellar Explained

Jennifer Love Hewitt Spills the Tea on Her Feud with Sarah Michelle Gellar: "I Have No Idea Where This Is Coming From!"

The drama never ends! In a recent interview with Vulture, Jennifer Love Hewitt is speaking out about rumors surrounding her friendship with Sarah Michelle Gellar, and trust us, it's getting juicy!

For those who haven't been keeping up, chatter began swirling after the two actresses failed to pose together at the Los Angeles premiere of the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot on July 14. Fans were left wondering if these former co-stars had finally called it quits.

But according to Hewitt, she's as clueless as we are! "I honestly don't even know what that was or how that all came to be," she confessed. "I just think people don't want the narrative to be easy. Why do we always have to be against each other and out for each other?"

The 9-1-1 star then dropped a bombshell: she hasn't seen Gellar in an impressive 28 years! "I haven't seen Sarah," Hewitt revealed. "Literally, we've not talked since I saw her at 18 years old when the first movie came out. That's why it's so funny to me."

So, what about all those whispers claiming the actresses were on the outs? Well, according to Hewitt, she's had friends encouraging her to address the rumors, but "I'm like, 'What am I going to say? I've not seen her'?"

She then said that she has not seen Gellar in about 27 years. 'I haven¿t seen Sarah,' the 9-1-1 star said. 'Literally, we¿ve not talked since I saw her at 18 years old when the first movie came out. That¿s why it¿s so funny to me.' Seen in 1998

The 46-year-old actress went on to explain that despite not having a close relationship with Gellar, there's no bad blood between them. In fact, Hewitt has even been looking forward to reuniting with her former co-star... sort of.

"I have no idea where this is coming from," she insisted. "On my side, we're good."

And it seems like Gellar agrees! The actress took to social media after the premiere, seemingly trying to silence the gossip train by sharing a series of photos and stating, "For everyone asking - I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt, who is fantastic in the movie. I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened... And unfortunately JLH didn’t come to the after party."

So, what's next for these former costars? Hewitt hopes that the new film's success will bring them together once again – or at least, she's open to it.

"That's the goal and the hope," she said.

Meanwhile, Gellar's husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., 49, has been singing his co-star's praises. "I'm really proud of the work that Love and I got to do on screen," he told People. "I think it's the best work we've done in all three of the movies that we did together." He even went so far as to say that Hewitt puts her heart and soul into playing Julie James, adding, "She means a lot to this character."
